Hi Brigau,
Thanks so much for all that information.
Unfortunately Marjory's death certificate does not have the names of her parents or husband (although we know this is definitely Donald Rankin) as she died in the asylum, and presumably they were not aware of this information. I've had a quick look at Scotlandspeople and it seems that she must have been Margaret as there dont appear to be any Marjory's born around that time.
Those parents - Duncan and Mary may well fit, as it looks like Donald and Marjory may have been living in Clovullin according to the 1861 census and thats certainly where Donald dies in 1878.
Thanks very much,
Julia

Hi,
I'm also looking for McLachlan's from Argyll.
Donald Rankin (b1816) married a Marjoy McLachlan/Mclaughlan in 1843 in Kilmallie, Argyll. She died in1883 in the Argyll and Bute District Asylum.
It seems that Donald's mother was a Mary Mclachlan, so I'm wondering and presuming that the families are some how related.
Thanks for your help.

Hi there,
I'm trying to research my great great grandfather who disappeared in the mid 1900s leaving a wife and my my great grandmother behind. He was an accountant and according to the 1901 census, lived in Bank House, Bonhill. I can't seem to find any record of a building called "Bank House". Does anyone remember it or know anything about it?
His name was John Taylor and he was born in 1870. He married Kathleen Nicholson in 1898 and their daughter was Kathleen Mary Taylor born 1899.
Thanks very much for all your help!
Julia
