Hi, and a huge thank you again for this information.  I especially note the fact that a John Hunt died and was buried 22 November 1840 aged 60, so I shall do some research on him and in due course order his death certificate just to see who was the informant and where they were all living, which might give a little bit of an indication to follow up some more.  No mention of a Sarah Hunt in the graves though!

Great information, very helpful and gives me something else to look up/research etc.  Thank you so much I really do appreciate your taking the time to look up this information for me.

Hi I looked at the Westleton parish register as this is your main thread but the fiche was illegible in many places.  The original registers are held at Ipswich records office so viewing them is not an option for me.

A John and Sarah Hunt (late Fryer) are baptising children in Westleton around this time and they baptised a son on 2nd February 1803.  I couldn't make out his name.  On the advice of the researcher there I also checked the bishops transcripts which are filmed by hundred by year.  I could see the entry but again couldn't decipher the child's name.  It began with an A but didn't look much like Abner - more like Adamiah (or similar  ???).  I checked the bishops transcripts for 1803 and 1804 but didn't have time to trawl through them for any other years (each year being on a different roll of film).

Hi, wow!  A huge huge thank you for looking up all this information and passing it on.  You have no idea how much I really appreciate your doing this, so thank you.

Very interesting to note the 'possible' parents of a John and Sarah Hunt, whom I shall have to do a bit of investigating about and see if they had any other children then that I can find in the census records etc as it might give me some clues at some point.  Also the late surname of Fryer for Sarah might also be worth my investigating.

Many thanks.

Hello  Many thanks for the prompt reply.  I do already have his death date etc noted and his descendents are pretty well tracked and documented.  I am really trying to see if I can find anything out about where Abner Hunt came from.  If he was baptised and where and the two starting options are the ones I gave.  I am trying to trace backwards to see if it is possible to find his parents and/or siblings (if he had any siblings), but am hoping that someone might either already know some of this information or be able to do some look ups.  But thanks for the information.

Suffolk Lookup Requests / Abner Hunt Family
« on: Friday 21 February 14 18:00 GMT (UK)  »
I have an Abner HUNT born about 1804 at Westleton, Suffolk that I cannot find any reference to, to go back any further, if possible.  On his marriage certificate in 1838 he states that his father is not living and frustratingly doesn't give a name.  I am therefore wondering if anyone could possibly look up the HUNT family for Westleton, Suffolk.  It could be that his family lived there and he was baptised somewhere else or that he was baptised there and the family lived somewhere else and I will have to widen my baptism search, but all avenues have drawn blanks for baptism or any information as to this family.  I have their descendents, but not the ancestors.  Any help for look ups would be very much appreciated.  The first name Abner is somewhat unusual and as he called his 2nd son Abner I feel it might be a significant name.

Unwanted Certificates & Artefacts / Re: Useful? Documents

Hello

Yes, the photo is in the Accrington Pals book as I just had a look at my copy.  It may well also be on the website.  My grandfather was an Accrington Pal and so I have already had the pleasure at looking through their extensive website and hence the reason we also have the book.  My grandfather is mentioned a couple of times in the book as he was interviewed about his experiences.  We also sent copies of some of my grandfather's documents to be placed on the website.  My grandfather was one of many going 'over the top' on the first day of the battle of the Somme, finding himself standing alone and wounded whilst everyone else around him had been decimated so I have a family interest in this area.  My grandfather is supposed to have joined the Pals because a relative (Richard Sharples) was part of it, but quite how they are related is not yet known or confirmed and maybe we will never know what the connection is.  My great aunt remembers Richard Sharples making regular visits with a companion to the family home to make payments to the family, from where or from whom or for what reason are unclear, but it has something to do with them being linked by family or so the story goes - those relatives are sadly no longer with us, so all we have to go on are their notes.  Some day I must go to Lancashire to look out the many boxes of archived records that are held which relate to the Sharples Solicitor's business to see if I can glean any answers from there, but that is for another time another day.

Hi  Thank you for your post and the photograph.  All very interesting.  What can you tell me about the photograph?  And is Richard Sharples sitting to the right or left of the mayor?!  Yes, I believe that Richard Sharples was the 'acting' Colonel of the Accrington Pals when it was formed albeit as a non military person himself, hence the 'acting' role.  I believe that he held the position for a few months - maybe more, until a military officer was found to run the unit etc.  I don't currently have my family information to hand but it would be good to find out a bit more information from you.  Thanks.

Hello again Tessa

I should add that I obtained the marriage certificate for William Lebond and Sarah Poole and I also obtained Sarah's death certificate.  I have found Sarah in the census records with her parents, before her marriage and also in all the census records with her husband/children after their marriage.  William dies sometime before 1901 as she is shown as being widowed on that one.  I also found her in the 1911 census.  Please get in touch as we may be able to help one another.

Hello  I have just recently found records for my 2X great grandmother Sarah Poole marrying a William Lebond.  Sarah's parents were John Poole and Rebecca West and Sarah had 6 other siblings.  Before Sarah married William Lebond, she gave birth to an illegitimate son Henry, my great grandfather and he was brought up by Sarah's parents and then by Sarah's widowed mother until he married my great grandmother.  Please get in touch with me via this message board as we may be able to help each other.  Look forward to hearing from you.  Many thanks.

Staffordshire / Re: Staffordshire Colliery Deaths

Thanks to everyone who has replied.  I have established that unfortunately there are no surviving coroner records for that time which is very disappointing and that my best bet is local newspapers for the time and the local Staffordshire records offices.  I don't live in Staffordshire, so it will have to go on my 'to do' list for records offices to visit to gather data etc.  Pit records might still exist so I might get lucky and be able to track something down from any records surviving from there or from their history archives if they exist.  As my relative's accident was just a single accident involving him alone there is no memorial as with bigger accidents/events.  However, I guess that if there wasn't much going on in the news in the days/weeks/months after my relatives fall down the pit and subsequent death, it might just have made a few lines in a newspaper of the time.  But I will have to wait and see for that.
