Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Maiden name help
« on: Tuesday 02 September 25 17:28 BST (UK)  »
Thanks all and sorry for lack of response, not much time at the moment.

Boo - Thanks for all the info. I had most of that with the exception of Mary b. 1889. It's great you have confirmed the info I had. At least I know i'm on the right path. I'm sure I checked for baptism records so Mary's children but i might go back and check again. I appreciate you looking at all this for me.

As you say, there are really only 2 records with Mary Bowen's birthplace and year of birth and they both differ which isn't helpful.

Sarah (b 1887) was my great grandmother. My dad thought she was Irish but all the records show different. I then found that her mother was potentially Irish so have been pursuing this for a while. I ordered a marriage cert and found I had the wrong Mary so then ordered Sarah's birth cert and now have what I assume is Mary's maiden name now. It looks like I may be at a dead end now!

Thanks, Bowen was what I thought.

@Tickettyboo
It was a birth certificate of Mary's daughter in 1887.
Mary was married to William Matthews. They had their first child in either 1883 or 1884.
Mary was born approx 1863, possibly in Ireland. I've not found a UK marriage so maybe they were married in Ireland.

What was Mary's maiden name? I think I read it correctly but want someone to confirm what I think because I can't find her in the records!

Dumfriesshire / Re: MI lookup parish of Dumfries

That's the one. I have these details and there is no further information. I was hoping there may be a grave headstone which might have more information.

Anyone with a Dumfries parish MI booklet?

Who was James given up by? I've got Bessie but not 100% certain what comes after.

It was ringing a bell but I couldn't quite remember it. Your response has jogged the grey cells and i've found i looked into this 12 years ago!! I recovering old ground.

Previous responses of where Symeon was from were in the ballpark of Milcommoss or Melcommoss or Milcamos/Milkamos/Milkimoss

I'm just trying to figure 2 things:

Who is 'of Annandale'?

Where is Symeon Helliday in?
