Thanks for your quick reply.

I did a search on www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk for an Obit in the Perthshire Advertiser, May 1972, but nil results. Might there be a better place to look?

BTW we have quite a big database for Clan MacLennan members at www.clanmaclennan-worldwide.com/genealogy - a large percentage of all Mac/McLennans born in Scotland before 1900.  Perhaps this will help you.

Best wishes,
Bruce

Hi Dumork,

Could you please confirm or otherwise that he was born 1909 in Coupar Angus? That McLennan was registered as Kenneth Alexander McL.

Might we be able to obtain the obit?

Kind wishes,

Hi,

I have been trying to sort out the Arivruaich (Lochs)  McLennans too - in 1861 I have:
- Donald, 80 yo bn Harris & Catherine, also 80 bn Harris , with a dau ?Ann, unmar, 40, and a grd-dau Mary, 7
 - John, 36 bn Harris and Margaret 32 bn Harris with sons Donald 4 bn Lochs and John 3 bn Lochs

I woule be interested to get the full story on each family from Lochs (or Harris) taht you know about.

Direct to famhist (at) clanmaclennan-worldwide (dot) com would be good.

Kind wishes,

My understanding is that the History of the Mathesons gives the clues that his father was Roderick McLennan and mother - Unknown Matheson.  Her father was Colin Matheson - "Colin a merchant in Dingwall who died without male issue but left two daughters" one of whom married Roderick McLennan, father of Colin.

Hi Angie,

Have you seen the obit that was published in the Inverness Courier in 1851 - when Capt Donald's memorial was erected?

I woudl be interested to learn the names of Christian's spouse and children for our McLennan worldwide tree - but no further (that is our scope).

And anything you might learn about Colin and Isabel.

If you would like to write to me directly at famhist (at) clanmaclennan-worldwide (dot) com I'll see if I can find the transcript of the 1851 obit for you.

Best wishes,
Bruce

Australia Lookups completed / Re: Donald McLennan Alness 1815

I have a Donald McLennan baptised at Alness 1815. Son of Murdoch McLennan and Mary Nicolson.

Their other children were:
Catherine McLennan (Contin 1817)
Janet McLennan (Contin 1820)
Christian McLennan (Contin 1822), and
Kenneth McLennan (Contin 1825).

I would be interested to hear from anyone who knows about any of this family.

My ancestors lived at "Blackburn", Scatwell in the parish of Contin around 1820 - four of their children were born there.

I visited there a couple of weeks ago and learnt that Allt Dubh means Black Burn in Gaelic. This stream is shown on an 1876 map entering the main river about 1.0 kms before the main Scatwell House (to the east). Today there are several houses there and a small bridge just on the Contin side.

The parents names were: Murdoch McLennan and Mary Nicolson - they would possibly have been born about 1795. I have no more detail about the parents.
Their first child, Donald McLennan, was born at Alness in 1815. The other children were:
Catherine McLennan (born 1817, Scatwell)
Janet McLennan (born 1820, Scatwell)
Chistian (or Christine) McLennan (born 1822, Scatwell)
Kenneth McLennan (born 1825, Scatwell)
