The only William I have lived in Birkenhead in 1901..no Cartwrights of mine in the black country as far as I know.

Hello Niglor,
I have Cartwrights in my family. Like you, I was hoping to connect them to Edmund or one of his other famous brothers, but I haven't managed it yet.
The Cartwright's I'm connected with were based in Nottingham, and the furthest I've got back to is Robert Cartwright (1789-1856), who married Ann Holmes (1785-1859).
There is a US connection: one of Robert's grandsons was William Aldam Cartwright, born Nottingham 1866, died USA 1936.
Let me know if you think there's a connection

I think Thomas Wilkinson might be in my family - I'd be descended from his brother Ernest.
Does any of the following sound right?
I've found a birth record for a Thomas Herbert S Wilkinson in Apr-May-Jun 1873, registered in Walsall. I'm sure that Thomas is in my family. I believe he turns up in the 1901 census in Walsall, down as Thomas Wilkinson, but married to Elizabeth (apparently born in Newark, USA) with a son Sidney (b 1900). Do you think he married twice?
I coundn't find a death record in the index for Herbert Wilkinson in 1956 in Walsall..

Hello,
I'm trying to find the date my grandfather died; i've got a rough idea but I'm not exactly sure where and when. His name was John George, but I can't find any John George or John G records that match up with his age, although there are a few possibles listed as just John.
His middle name was no secret, and has been on most of his records since he was christened with it. Is it likely that they would have recorded him down as just John, or is/was there a policy of always including middle initials or names if they are known?

I'm a bit late for this thread - can we resurrect it for a bit? I'm interested in Jonathan Wilkinson (b 1833 or so) as he's my Great great grandfather. I'm keen to find out a bit more about his father, and a few of his sons.
I can't see anything on this thread that contradicts what little I've found, and it add/confirms a lot.
Matthew is my favourite for being Jonathan's father, but I've never tracked Matthew on any census. I think that's because he didn't make it that far. Durham records online has an entry for a burial for a Matthew Wilkinson in 1838. There's a birth date of about 1808, and the birthplace or abode is given as Pittington. There's an entry for the death of a Matthew Wilkinson in Q2 1838 of the deaths index, but I can't make out the district. The Pittington connection fits in with the Margaret christening at Pittington st Lawrence.
