Bedfordshire Lookup Requests / Re: Norman Family of Woburn, Lookup pre-1837
« on: Sunday 18 July 10 19:08 BST (UK)  »
Hello Grumbles ,I have only today found this website having only recently started to research my family roots.

Samuel Norman was my Great Great Great Grandfather ,his son Joseph was my Great Great Grandfather .The info I have is that Samuel and his wife Mary are shown living at Jobs Farm Woburn in the 1841 and 1851 Census's .My guess is that he was a Tenant farmer on the Woburn estate as his is the only family shown at that address .In the 1861 census the family are shown living at 17 Leighton Street Woburn and he is shown as a Farm Labourer. This address is less than half a mile from Jobs Farm .

It is my belief that Samuel had a brother Joseph .A joseph Norman was born 5th March 1804 he married a Suzzanah .Joseph died in 1878 .His gravestone is in the old woburn graveyard close to my Great Great Grandfather Josephs gravestone .The gravestone bears the inscription that he was a faithful servant to 4 Dukes of Bedford .It appears that he was a Gamekeeper and that he died in Park Farm on the Woburn estate .

In the 1881 census Samuel is shown living in Toseland Huntingdon with his son William who was a chicken farmer .

Hope this is of help .

Simon Norman .
