Hi Michellle,

That photo is fascinating, I will definitely show my Grandad next time I see him.
Do you have anymore information about Aideen and her husband and children? I don't know very much and would really appreciate any information you have.

I'd be more than happy to share with you what I have discovered about the Connollys if you're interested.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Sarah

Hi Ian,

Sorry it's taken me so long to get in touch.

My uncle asked my Grandad about Thomas and this is what he said;

"He thinks (but as he says himself without any substantiation) that he was rewarded with land in Rhodesia, today's Zimbabwe as were many others who served Britain. All his papers seemed to have been destroyed. His granddaughter (? I’ll have to check that) wrote to Nora looking for support in her bid to get Irish citizenship after Ian Smith unilaterally declared Rhodesia independent of Britain. She probably wrote towards the end of 1965 or early 1970. As far as I know after Nora replied there was no further correspondence."

I'm working on an extended family tree and have been for quite some time. Would you be able to give me the names and dates (and any stories) of your family from John down? I'd be more than happy to share with you what I have discovered so far if you're interested.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Sarah

Hi Lenohe, ConRey and SRey,

This is exciting! It's great when new info is discovered and the family tree grows.

I'm looking forward to finding out about Aideen and her family. As SRey said very little is known about her and her descendants.

My Grandfather would know a bit about the Reynolds as he lived with Lillie for a while when growing up. I'll pass all these names on to him when I see him and maybe he can provide more info.

If anyone wants any information about the Connollys, in particular Roderick Connolly's family I'd be happy to help.

Be in touch!

Hi S Rey,
Sorry it's taken me a week to get back to you, I've been finishing up work and it's been a hectic few days.
Anyway thanks again for your reply, you seem to be really interested and involved in the family history. Now you mention Moira's husband and children they ring a bell, I've never met them but my grandad speaks of them.
You should definitely write to my grandad, it's not intrusive at all and he'd really appreciate it. He loves talking about the family and has so many stories, he's definitely the go to man in relation to family history. He lived with Lillie for a while when he was growing up. My grandad actually has 6 children, 3 boys and 3 girls. I am one of Roddy's daughters. Do you have the names of his children? Which child are you missing? I see John Connolly and James Connolly Heron at 1916 services in Dublin during the year, I don't really have much else to do with them or their families which is a shame.
I'd love to find out more about the Reynolds side. You told me of John and George's families, what about Margaret? Did she marry and have children? I was always under the impression it was Lillie and Margaret who were twins, not their brothers, I shall pass this info on to my aunties and uncles.
I came across Ina's grandson and his father (who would be my grandfather's cousin). They live in America. I was meant to meet them last summer while there but never got around to it unfortunately. They're Connolly Herons. I can pass that info on to you if you're interested.
Your contact details would be great, we can correspond that way which may be easier and safer when mentioning names and locations of family memebers that are still living.
Hope to hear from you soon.

S Rey,
I've been on to my grandfather and there are two versions as to where Lillie was born. The first is Rathnew in Co. Wicklow and the other is Carnew. Nora believed it was Rathnew her mother was from. Births were registered in Rathdrum although she might not be registered as it was not compulsory and if she was it could be under the name Elizabeth Reynolds and not Lillie.
Hope this helps.

Hi S Rey,
I don't have much info on Aideen other than she was born in Edinburgh on 3rd March 1895. Her middle name was Lily (not Lillie).
I am JC's great great granddaughter. My grandfather Seamus is his grandson and one of the sons of Roddy from his first marriage. My dad, who is also called Roddy, is his great grandson. What descendants of Roddy's are you in contact with?
I'd love to hear some of your findings and information.
•Do you know anything about James' brother Thomas? He's very hard to find info on. I do know that he was born April 27 1866.
•Who did Moira marry? What children did she have?
•I have Mary Richards (nee Connolly) down as John Connolly's (brother of James) daughter but I don't have a name for his wife or other possible children.
I have a million questions but I don't want to bombard you with them all!
I live in Ireland but fly to the UK quite often.
I've been asking family members about where Lillie was born in Wicklow and where her parents were from but haven't got a definite answer yet. I'll keep trying and let you know if anything comes up.
Thanks for your help and hope to hear from you soon.

HJenk, Connolly1916, SRey - It was very interesting reading your posts.

I am a relation of James Connolly also. I am his great great granddaughter from Roddy's (his only son) line of family. I'm working on a family tree myself and all the information you have provided is fitting in nicely. I have managed to go back as far as both sets of James' grandparents, across to his aunt and uncle on his fathers side and a few cousins. I have a bit of information on Ina's descendants as well as Roddy's.
I would love to expand my family tree even more so anyone with any info or who would like any info do get in touch.

HJenk - What child of James Connolly does your family come form?
