Shropshire Lookup Requests / Re: Whittington Parish Mary Williams 1864
« on: Saturday 16 June 12 22:51 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Thanks for your input.

I'd already checked the new FamilySearch site and IGI records and had hoped to find someone who had access to the parish records, as they don't show on there.

I hadn't seen the other 'May' at Whittington so thanks for pointing that out - will consider it further. Agreed that the purchase of the marriage certificate would be the best action but not being my direct relative, I don't intend to spend money for something in which others should invest, but will leave that to my cousin. Although given the specific birth date there is only one registration that fits (given that births should have been registered within 6 weeks of the birth), but as there are many Mary Jane Williams (even Oswestry registered) I want to make sure.

It will become more obvious regarding my selection if you look at the 1881:
RG11; Piece: 2660; Folio: 110; Page: 10 - Mary (bottom but one) a servant but next door to a family of Williams in which Mary's age would fit well as a child. Using that as a possibility, I found (transcribed just as William) the same family in which probably Mary is shown but transcribed as May William.
RG10; Piece: 2785; Folio: 71; Page: 24

As often the case in censuses there appears to be a very slight age discrepancy possibly based on information not provided by the head of house or perhaps age being falsified for a 'servant' as may have been illegal.

I'm not discounting your other Mayd (which looks to be Mary J which fits), but have yet to find a corresponding 1881 census for that family as a double check.

UK 1891 census will not help, as they then show on records in Canada.

Kind Regards - Dave

Hi Carole

I don't have that information unfortunately. This is related to a 'cousin' of mine from Canada who has recently started ancestry with my assistance. I have recommended purchasing the relevant copy of the suspected birth certificate and marriage certificate, but I'm trying to advance the research whilst she decides to venture that far.

I have looked into the censuses which have only one Mary Williams born Whittington (one census shows her as 'May William') and these lead to my assumption of Richard being her father - this followed by a FreeBMD result based on the marriage of that father shortly before the first born - marriage in 1859 to an Anne Jones. I was looking to see if there was any way my follow through could be correct.

Kind Regards - Dave

Shropshire Lookup Requests / Whittington Parish Mary Williams 1864

Good Morning

Many thanks in anticipation of help on this one.

I'd be grateful to know any details about Mary Jane Williams whose birth date is believed to be 18th July 1864 and place Whittington, Shropshire. Was she baptised in Whittington or perhaps nearby Oswestry etc. and if so when and where, and what were her parents forenames.

If it transpires that the parents names are Richard and Ann/e then they were both supposedly born in Whittington and therefore the likely marriage showing in FreeBMD is that of Richard Williams and Anne Jones in Oswestry District (probably Whittington logically) in the June ¼ of 1859 - marriage date and venue would be well received. :D

Many thanks for any time given to these requests.

Kind Regards - Dave

Tried initial 'M' on the SIT and received 0 (zero) names. As mine is one of them, and there must be very many more, looks like a problem with the database/programme?! ???

Many thanks in anticipation of any assistance with this request.

I have a Nathaniel Porter (censuses birth give Sherrifhales c1806). Other census details give his wife consistently as Esther born Linley c1806. I would be grateful for any information shown in a marriage record for these two people, and especially Esther's maiden name. At a guess the marriage took place in either Sherrrifhales or Linley.

Hello Sue

I was absolutely horrified to find that it appears I didn't respond with a thank you for your efforts back in 2005. I suppose it's possible that I sent a message off line, but in case I didn't I can only apologise.

Looking at the month, perhaps a holiday kept me from following the thread of an enquiry.

I assure you it is always my intention to show my gratitude for any help, and have spent much time over the past few years trying to help others. To think that I may have been rude enough not to show how grateful I was bothers me.

Please forgive me?!! :-[

Kind Regards - Dave

Hello Paxis

It's been a while since you enquired about a John Dix s/o Joseph and Mary, and perhaps you have the answer already. If you haven't, I have some news for you!

From the response you received regarding the baptism record indicating the father Joseph to be an Innkeeper, I'm pretty sure that Joseph and Mary are my 3rd Great Uncle and Aunt, with Mary being the daughter of my 4th Great Grandfather - Mary is Mary Harber who married Joseph Dix in Wenhaston 5th Oct 1807. Wenhaston is a parish 4½ miles from Dunwich.

The 1841 Census record can be found at: HO107 Piece 1015 Book 12 Folio  7  Page 8  Line  6 and the 1851 at: HO107 Piece 1803  Folio 265  Page 7

If you need to know more about the Harber side of things, ***please send me a personal message and I would be interested in your link to the family.

Kind Regards - Dave

Good Evening and Happy New Year!

I would be grateful for information regarding the marriage of Dugald (other possible spellings) McPhail and Jane (Elizabeth) Warren which is shown as having taken place on 2nd Feb 1829 in Family Search. I am especially interested in any indication of the parents or father of Dugald McPhail, my GGG Grandfather, and names of witnesses may help me progress further. Dugald is shown to have been born in Argylleshire, Scotland in the 1861 English census.

Many thanks in anticipation of your time and effort.

Kind Regards - Dave

I was very sorry to hear of Peter's passing - he always made me feel that I knew him personally, with the way he responded and helped with my requests, always dealt with in a friendly and helpful manner.

My sincere condolences to those dearest to him.
