« on: Friday 09 April 21 20:12 BST (UK)  »
Im not sure if this thread is still active but incase that it is and you are still looking for information, John joined the army in around 1909.  He married in Fermoy Co. Cork Ireland (where he was stationed) in 1913 to Kate Rose and they had one son in 1914.  John was killed during the war in 1916 and is buried in Ypres.

Thankyou for that MaxD,

The only information I have is that he was an army pensioner 4th royal irish regiment by october 1914.  I am hoping by learning about the regiment I will be able to get a better ubderstanding of where I need to look for records.  Thanks for the link, will have a look into it now.

Armed Forces / 4th Royal Irish Regiment pre 1914

Hi all,
Researching my great grandad from wexford after noticing on one of his sons birth records he was listed as a pensioner of the 4th battalion. I  believe it may have been the extra reserves but I'm not sure. Any info about  this regiment would be a great help.
Thanks,
Laura

Cork / Re: Fermoy New Barracks

Only boundary walls stand of the new barracks, its now the pitch & putt and gaa grounds. The old railway station is now a funeral home and the only train tracks left (and is unsafe) is the viaduct locally known as the redbridge. There is a fermoy facebook page with some fantastic historical pics. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Fermoy/241844877097?sk=timeline

Wexford / Re: Whitechurch, New Ross / Cleary & Doyle
« on: Friday 14 March 14 00:21 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there, Hope you dont mind just stumbled across this thread. I also have been having struggles with the Doyle name, so common in Wexford!! Ive hit a brick wall at my Great Great Grandfather Thomas Doyle and seem to be stuck for the past number of years!! No idea when he was born or died, who he married or if he had more children other than just my Great Grandad. I just know his name was on my Great Grandfather Patrick Doyles Marriage Cert to Elizabeth Barnewell in 1911.  My aunt believes that my relatives are buried in whitechurch, whether that's correct or not im unsure. My relatives would have come from Horetown in Foulksmills, and I'm Just curious as to whether the whitechurch area would be near the Foulksmills area? And any idea how to narrow down the Doyle name, I just seem to be coming across alot of irrelevant info. I did strangely enough stumble across a photograph of a man named James Barnewell, no idea if he was a relative of Eliza or not but had an uncanny resemblance to my Grandfather and even my own Dad!! Strange the things you would find! Any help or advice on getting passed a brick wall would be great if you have any! cheers!

Wexford / Re: Hayes Family Tree Wexford
« on: Thursday 13 March 14 23:24 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there, Im also searching for a Mary Hayes married a John Barnewell, daughter Elizabeth was my Great Grandmother, she married Patrick Doyle of Foulksmills. Doubt that theres a connection as yours seem to be a bit later than the years im searching.  But just to let you know the name Banville could be transcribed in documents as Barnwall, Barnewell, Barnwell and Barnawell also. It is something that I have come across in my research! (Which is very little at this point!)

Cork / Re: SHERLOCK(s) in Fermoy, Co. Cork

Sent that message without finishing! You are more than likely on the right track in assuming that Jane  was born in Saint Helena. A similar story in my family, have relatives that were born in Gibralter, Malta etc.. Their Father was also in the British army but a native of Fermoy. I will mail you with an idea of how you might be able to get more help.
