Hello Art,

It's a nice surprise to make contact. Have you any old photos of your Grandfather with his siblings?

Regards, Wicklowman

Carlow / Hogans of Drumphea and knoclonagad
« on: Wednesday 21 July 10 10:11 BST (UK)  »
Hello Pete,

I have Hogans listed for both Drumphea and Knoclonagad. James Hogan 1795-1855 married Mary Murphy 1809-1855. They had 5 children, Patrick 1831-1921, Thomas 1840-1914, James 1836-1930, Elizabeth and Mary 1843-1871.
Patrick married Bridget Kavanagh 1837-1913. Thomas married Bridget Maher 1846-1910.James married Mary Anne ????  1847-1929. I have no details on Elizabeth Hogan, Mary Hogan or Mary Anne's surname. Do you have any Currans that married these names?

Thanks.

Carlow / O'Neill, Carlow. Crossan, Co Laois/Offaly
« on: Wednesday 21 July 10 09:57 BST (UK)  »
My Great Grandfather John (Sean) O'Neill (born Wicklow 1874) married Elizabeth Crossan (born 1875 Co.Offaly)and they lived in College Street, Carlow. They had eight children Thomas (1898), Elizabeth (1900), John (1902), Marianne (1903),Theresa (1904), Catherine (1907), Joseph (1910)and Peter (1915).
Sean was a printer with The Nationalist newspaper. Elizabeth's Father was John Crossan (born 1836 Co. Laois)and was widowed before 1911.
Peter O'Neill went on to marry Margaret (Peggy) Hogan from 28 Lower Borris and served in the Irish Army artillery division. Can anyone help my research?

Carlow / Hogan,Borris, Corries. Doyle,Ballindaggin.

I am trying to find information on the Hogan family who lived in No. 27 Lower Borris from the late 1800's onwards.  The Hogans ran the filling station on the Main Street until the 1970's. Behind the station they ran a motor garage. It was previously a forge and coach builders started by my GG Grandfather Edward (Ned) Hogan (1875-1948) who was born in Corries. He was married to Mary Ellen Doyle (1877-1962) who was born in Ballymana,Ballindaggin.

Wicklow / Kilmacanoge - Glen of the Downs area

The area you are referring to is probably Ballydonagh. Coming out from Bray you come to Sexton's garden centre. It is still in business there.  On the left hand side of the road is a steep narrow lane with a few cottages called Ballydonagh Lane. There is also Ballydonagh Road which heads east around the rear of Bellview Demesne past the Glen of the Downs Golf Club. On the right hand side of the N11 is Red Lane where the Glenview Hotel is located and it leads to the Sugar Loaf mountain. Straight across the N11 main road from Sexton's garden centre was a very well known filling station and motor repair garage called The Glen Garage. It was run by the Byrne family and closed circa 2000.
I hope this is of help. Did your family have friends there or were you just camping on farmland?

Wicklow / Downs village, Glen of the Downs

I am searching for any information regarding the Downs village in the area of Willow Grove, Kilpedder and Delgany. I'm especially interested in old photographs but any info would be of great benefit. I have already researched through the 1911 and 1901 Census.

Wicklow / The Story of Delgany/Between the Mountains and the Sea
« on: Saturday 10 July 10 10:16 BST (UK)  »
This book was published by the Select Vestry of Delgany Parish in 1990.

ISBN 0 9516411 0 7   hardback

ISBN  0 9516411 1 5  softback

Printed by  Leinster Leader Ltd.  Naas.

Although I have a copy of it, it is long out of print. It is still available in Greystones library although I have been told that with the huge demand for this book, copies have "disappeared" from the libraries in Co. Wicklow
