Yes there were rumblings in past generations about "english grandmother".  I found that Grace Green was born in Mallow so we were thinking maybe it wasn't true.

I signed up on that site but didn't put  any money in.  I am not familiar with euros and I joined World Ancestry.com in Aug. hoping that would be enough.

The Greanys are Catholic but it appears that John Greany and Grace Sherlock Green were married in the COI in Mallow.   Their children were raised Catholic in the States and Baptised in Dublin at St. Andrew.

I am sorry I failed to answer your question.

I read so many things the last few days I guess I had my names confused.  It was Slaters 1846 that I saw.  I had also seen Pigots 1827 and found no Greany butchers.  I am a little confused with  the other two showing John Greany , main st.  butcher.  in 1867 and 1870.  Census records from US 1880 and 1900 show him and his family arrived in the states in 1865.  I have not been able to verify this. He had two children in Dublin after his marriage in 1859 to Grace Green.  According to census records his third child was born in Massachusetts. in 1869.   According to family the first three children were born in Ireland.  Now I have a new mystery.  That John Greany you found may not be our gggrandfather.
You helped me find John Greany and Grace Green's marriage two or three months ago when I first started looking.  The Irish are very elusive.  I wish that census records had survived.   I want to connect Daniel Greany with Patrick Greany and on to John Greany.   I even found a James Greany in the 1901 census - a butcher in Mallow.

I had more luck with the French Canadians even though I don't speak any French.

Thank you for your help and interest.

I need help on next step.  Family history is that the Greany's were butchers in Mallow in the 1800's.  I found Daniel Greany in Giffiths Valuation as an occupant of property in Mallow on Main Street.   In Pigots (1847) Daniel was listed as a  butcher on Main street.   Our ancestor who immigrated was John Greany b Mallow 1838,  His father was listed as Patrick Greany.   Patrick  married (according to family records) Margaret Flynn.   I would very much like to find the relationship.  Was Daniel Greany  Patrick Greany's father, brother or what?  What is my next step?   I have searched much of the information on the Mallow Historical site.

Census and Resource Discussion / Re: Census years available???1931

There are no pictures that I am aware of.   Clara was not the biological mother of William Taylor's children.  My grandfather was William Schofield Taylor, son of William Taylor and his 2nd wife, Elizabeth Bottomly Schofield.   He died in 1942.  I was told many wonderful stories of my grandfather but not much about his father.  I think there was some tension in the family about his being "forced" to return to England by Clara and maybe a little resentment.

I have a lot of information about both William Taylor's past and even more about Elizabeth Bottomly Schofield   because of research done by someone using this site to trace her family - Schofield.  We have been corresponding by e-mail.  She has sent me so much information which I have shared with my family here.

I enjoyed reading about the census problems but it appears I will not be able to find any info on William Taylor's return to England that way.   I don't even have a DOD.   Thank you for all the information about the census.

Thank you.  That was very interesting.  As you can tell I am in the US.  Was a census taken in 1941.  I would think there was more important things to think about.

Thanks.

That was fast.  I am impressed.  I meant England.  When do you think 1931 will be available.  I had a relative William Taylor, who came to the states and raised a family and returned to England sometime after 1925 with his third wife, Clara.

I found them in the US Census for 1920, and getting a passport in 1923 to visit relatives for 6 months.  I have no idea where they went on this trip.

I wanted to check the census for English census for 1931 but it doesn't seem to be available.  William Taylor was 66 at the time of their visit in 1923.

Any suggestions of where to look?

Thanks

Is 1901 the latest census available?  I just read that 1911 is not available "free" yet.  What is the schedule for future years?

I am sure this information is available somewhere but I haven't found it yet.

Thanks
