Hi Heather, I have got a copy of the actual marriage cert, it's Lucinda Roberts. I have now paid for a search to be done at Carnarvon record office, for the births of the other children to see if their mother was a Lucinda Roberts or Lucy Neal.

Hi, I wonder if anybody can help, trying to trace my Welsh roots.
Evan Samuel Owens born abt 1818 in Bangor Caernarvonshire,
married Lucinda Roberts at the Cathedral church Bangor 1st qrt 1839
Evans address was Orchard Street, his father was Samuel.
1841 and 1851 census they lived at Kyffin Square. Evan was a coach builder.
they had 5 children on the 1851 census. in 1851 4qrt they had my greatgranddad Elias born Kyffin square.
 my puzzle is this;
Elias's mother was named as Lucy Neal, and all subsequent census names Evan's wife as Lucy, I cannot find a death for Lucinda there is a Lucinda Owen death in Phwelli but she was only a child, nor can I find another marriage for Evan. was Lucinda and Lucy the same person if so where did Neal come in, as Elias was not first born.
also from 1871 census the family came to Buckinghamshire to live with the railway works this is where most of us descendants still live.
apart from ordering all the children's birth certs( it took me 4 attempts to get Elias right)how do I solve this puzzle any clues most appreciated.

hi and thank you tuppie, it will be worth waiting for them to open again, although It is not pleasant to think of family breaking the law, it may shed some light on the circumstances he lived in and maybe if it is my Richard the reason for name change.  I have been searching for him for the last 4 years.so will phone Sheffield archives to check they are reopened and plan a visit.  will keep you posted.

I have found a Richard Riley in 1861 census in workhouse in Sheffield born 1847, but the record for workhouse have been lost so can't follow this through. also criminal record listing on ancestry has a Richard and James Riley, James acquitted Richard given 18months, so this would perhaps be worth a look at, as dates fit but not sure how to go about this.  As 1 of his daughters registered his death the family must have known his secret. thank you for your help

Hi, any small clue would be most helpful. I am trying to trace my greatgranddad, known details are taken from census and army records. his name was Richard Fransis Twigg, born about 1847, now his place of birth has been given as Bakewell, Sheffield and Chesterfield. I have got various birth certs for these areas but none are right. he joined the army in 1867 I have a copy of his records from Windsor Barracks but they give very little information, only he was aged 18years 9 months, and was training to be an electro plater.prior to joining. never gave any next of kin. no trace of him prior to this. He married in london in 1873 his father was named as James Twigg a captain in the merchant services No trace of him either. the puzzle came when I got a copy of his death cert his name was given as Richard Francis Riley otherwise Twigg. I have copies of All records after 1867 till his death in 1917.
Where was and who was Richard from birth till 1867, where do I go from here?

Caernarvonshire Lookup Requests / Evan Samuel Owens Bangor
« on: Saturday 09 October 10 17:23 BST (UK)  »
Hi I wonder if anyone can help me. I am researching an Owens (Owen) family
from Bangor. What info I have is-
Evan Samuel Owens married a Lucinda Roberts in the Cathedral church Bangor in 1839 I have cert.
1841 and 1851 census they lived in Kyffin Square Bangor.
My gggrandad Elias was born 22 October 1851 in Kyffin Square. but his birth cert names his mother as Lucy Neal.
I can't find a death for Lucinda (did find a Lucinda Owens death but she was a child). nor can I find another marriage for Evan, the family then moved to warwickshire then Buckinghamshire where they settled this is now where most of us decendents live. but 1861 census forwards till death cert says Lucy. We had always assumed Lucy was short for Lucinda but Elias birth cert has made us wonder.  He was not the first child, would order more birth certs but with Owens it is not easy to get right. any help would be most appreciated.  jan
