Stirlingshire / Re: George Comrie of Denny

Hi Anne,

No, don't worry, it's good to know he had another son too. Though I'm not sure if anyone in Denny knew of Frank in Huddersfield. Its all related to George in some way, and is more than we knew a few days ago.

Thanks for helping

A very big thank you, lots of good research there. Especially to Gadget (I have James' clubs already thanks). Plenty to follow up on.

The reason for the interest is Frank Comrie Gordge, born in Huddersfield in Q3 1913.

I should be able to get further back down the Comrie line now, will post again if I get stuck

Thanks again to all

I am researching Albert Edward Ruddiman who married Clara Gordge in q4 1921 in Huddersfield. He is believed to have been away on military service in India for an unspecified number of years following this where some of his children were born and could be the Albert who died in Huddersfield in 1946. I can find no details of him anywhere in the UK prior to his marriage.

Stirlingshire / George Comrie of Denny

I am researching a George Comrie of Denny who played professional football for Huddersfield Town in 1912-3 season. He has a wikipedia entry saying he was born in 1888, but the only census references I can find have a George Comrie of Denny aged 6 in 1891 and 15 in 1901. He may be related to a James Comrie also of Denny (born 1881) and James's nephew Malcolm, both professional footballers too. That's all  know currently.

Other possible Holtermann tie ups to the above info are

bmd - q4 1860 in Mile End Old Town, birth of Fazar Philobena HOLTERMANN

1871 census in Hackney, Anne HOLTERMANN b. about 1834 in Lincolnshire

Plus, if Henry was actually born in Prussia, not Russia, there is an IGI record for HENRICI HOLTERMANN christened 4th Apr 1829.

Thanks for all the info.
The story passed down from my uncle who did all the family history is that Tamar born in 1838 was so sickly and not expected to live that she was christened immediately. She did survive and was christened again in 1843.

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Huddersfield Union, Golcar

A couple of my tree branches lead back to the Huddersfield Union, Golcar in the 1841 census. Does anyone know how many people were at this address in 1841, and whether the two branches are likely to have known each other. Where exactly was that building, and is it still standing today.
