Thank you both for this information.  He was only 37 at the time.

I have passed it on to my mother and aunties (this was their grandfather that they never met)

Hello
I am trying to read the cause of deathfrom this record.  I think what it starts off with is "tuberculosis of kidney"  but I can't read what it says under that.

Many Thanks

Hi Ostler

Oh, that is interesting!  What were the names of the parents you have?  Unfortunately I don't have any siblings for Robert Laing in my research.

Was Anne Bayne who married Robert Laing daughter of John Bain and Catherine Terras?

Yes this is the same Anne Bayne.

Fife / Thomas Laing, Police death record
« on: Wednesday 29 December 10 19:44 GMT (UK)  »
Hello
My great grandfather was Thomas Laing, a police constable born 1891.  Married in Leslie in 1914 to Helen Wilson Duncan.
My question is that I was told by family members that my great grandfather, Thomas Laing died at a very young age and it was thought that he was killed during work as a police officer.  I cannot find any records of his death.  Is there any place that records officers killed in the line of duty?
I should mention he may of been working in Glasgow at the time, particularly in the Gorbals.

Thanks

Thank you very much for providing all this information, this is my first post and have found this extremely helpful.

Hume:  I actually didn’t have that information from the 1891 census re Edward and his wife so thank you, I have actually not been following either of his daughters, but a son, William who is my great great grandfather and was born in Scotland after this census.
What was your 2x greatgrandfathers name who lived in the house at Addles Square?

Jonn:  Thank you, now that you have mentioned the name Brean, I can see that it is indeed that on the marriage record of their son.  I have found the birth record of Helen Scollon and have found that her parents were married in Enniskillin, Fermanagh, Ireland which is new information for me, so that’s great!  I can now do the same thing for the Sherman’s.

Ireland / Scollon Scallan or Scullion

Hi

I'm trying to trace my family name, SCOLLON in Scotland, I've made it back to Edward SCOLLON married Annie Sherman in 1887, his father was also Edward SCOLLON and mother Ellen B...can't read the rest, which I got from Edward and Annies marriage record.
I have seemed to hit a wall from here, it appears that their last name could have changed as I understand they may at this point come from Ireland.  Does anyone know how to proceed from here?  And how do I know which spelling SCOLLON was changed from?

Thanks
