My grandmother's mother was a "Nocker" but there was a period when they changed their name to Connor. She use to tell us it was due to the wars and not wanting to be thought of as German (Nocker and Knocker sound German perhaps?). They lived in northern Ireland though, part of the Scottish migration of 17th or 18th century.
