Hi JellyBean
Sorry for delay, happens frequently as unwell and drugs knock me out!
I'm a novice here and astonished at the depth and spread of knowledge. A couple of photos for Seahall has provoked interest, and so happy that it makes others happy. I put Stan's brief history and answers on previous page:
1. My G/dad Stan was in APC until end of 1917 when 60 who were at Warwick where had a dinner in local Woolpack hotel on occasion of being transferred to combatant units!! (he kept it secret from daughters and maybe from his wife?). Not all to same units - but he enlisted into MGC. His two service medals are stamped on rim as him in MGC not APC.
2. I need his war records and a son in law (who's ex-military like me) of another of his daughters should be applying. I will press for update. He was CQMS so vital role in provding equpiment for company.
3. I know Middle East and Russian front connection but never heard of Egyptian but I'll ask my aunt (it's difficult as she's far away and we both have mobility issues). I think she's fitter at 88 than I at 54, also best to ask these Qs in person too, so I'll ask my cousin's wife to do that!
4. Bench !! Yes never realised it could be a stage, that makes perfect reason for a picture to be taken too doesn't it? Never guessed connected - piccies only recently in our possession. Ta for info you gave on pro troupe - makes you sound local!!?
5. Cap badge - at 500% look all same shape and as Stan in APC then all must be APC. I know badges fairly well and would stake 50p on them being APC.
6. Whizzbang, yes had brief look on web. Yes I'll be honoured to write a piece - Needs picture - which one?, got original signed menu too!! what angle? how many words? Vital we use the info we all have keep memories and interest alive.
7. Other articles: I'm working on Stan due to him losing so many cousins etc http://www.roll-of-honour.com/Northamptonshire/Daventry.html . My recent posts on here in County I mention the angle of the 'family' who didn't come back. Project work with British Legion's to update their website

Regards

Sally,
I posted my G/dad yesterday (Sgt). These are last two I have of him in military, thought you may find them interesting?

Cpl Stanley Marriott b NORTHAMPTON both taken about 1914.

1. As Corporal in Army Pay Corps. Based at Warwick
2. In Periott costume (on the right - anyone recognise his mate?), must be for a military concert party! Periott's were famous music hall entertainment combinations of the day: A compere, juggler, joke teller, slaptick, singer and group events. No idea what my G/father's skill was but I inherited these genes but sadly not the costume. Professional touring companies used to appear opposite Abington Pk Hotel (APH) and the gates to park on Wellingbrough Rd.

Thanks Stevbie9173 and Seahall. Charles (b in Dav) and Stanley MARRIOTT (b in N'pton) were brothers, family moved to town 1891-94.

With thanks to Northampton independant I have transcribed the wedding article:

The marriage took place at Holy Trinity Church on Saturday of Sergt (Sgt) C. W. Marriott of the 7th Northamptons, eldest son of Mr & Mrs C. Marriott, of 77 Cecil Rd, and Bertha Inwood, younger daughter of Mr Fred Inwood, formerly of Northampton. The bridegroom is well known is local swimming circles. He was the representative of the Bective Swimming Club on the Leather Trades’ League Committee and was also a member of the Northampton Amateur Swimming Club. He joined the 7th Northamptons on its formation and was soon promoted Sergeant. He was wounded at Dixsmunde on October 18th (1915) but made a good recovery at Trent Bridge Military Hospital. It is expected, however, that he will have to undergo a further operation to his arm before he is fit again for active service.

My Comments: Charles did join Col Mobbs 'Sportsmen) 7 Bn (to whom we do have a loose family connection).
The Information on Stanley's "number colleague in MGC" could unlock a few doors many thanks.

George Louis MARRIOTT b 1889 was a brother (in between) who enlisted into Northants Regt Special Res as a Shoehand No 8764. However, he died Jun 1912 (Reason NK).
Another 2 photo oft Stan to follow.....!

Northamptonshire / Daventry WW1 Look-ups (C1911): Charles William Edgar ELLIOTT
« on: Saturday 25 June 11 18:43 BST (UK)  »
Subject name: Charles William Edgar ELLIOTT  b & lived in 1896 in Daventry. Died of wounds Flanders 26 Apr 1918.

Please could anyone with C1911 kindly look him up (aged 15) for me and hopefully identify his parents, address etc too.

In C1901 aged 5 he was living with his G/mother Sarah Howard (nee Cooper) family - presumably his maternal g/ma side.

http://www.roll-of-honour.com/Northamptonshire/Daventry.html states he is son of Mr & Mrs E Elliott of Daventry but no address and no E Elliotts found in Free BMD. I'm trying to help British Legion to provide more information on the 112 names from WW1 recorded.

Charles enlisted, firstly unusually in Birmingham, and secondly, into 6th Bn Gloucestershire Regt (No 2091813) which could be a clue or a red herring? Died at Corporal rank.

Thanks
Phil Andrews

I suppose the parish records for Rugby in 1919 would be in Warks and not Northants?

But it looks like Rugby in his military records are incorrect as only one person exists - who was b in Daventry, then moved to Rugby?

Incidentally doing research over last 3-4 years I've seen many references to folk our on that border of Daventry district registering their children births in Rugby just to confuse things.

Note I'm onto a Frost hero too.

Sandy - My Grandad. I will get photos from Daventry WW1 memorial project.
Stevbie - Some of 112 men on Daventry WW1 Memorial were Northamptonshire Regt - names to follow. Many are my relations hence I've been asked to help them. http://www.roll-of-honour.com/Northamptonshire/Daventry.html

Please Anyone who can add anything on my G/Dad I'd be very grateful for.

Stanley Walter MARRIOTT my maternal G/dad b 1894 Northampton 18 Oakley St, C1911 at 77 Cecil Rd

Enlisted in Army Pay Corps (most of cousins in Daventry went into infantry or artillery).
Picture far R at back as Cpl in RAPC.  Regt No: 103620 and seems kept same Regt no as it's on his medal rim?
17/11/16 - APC Event  (I have the original Dining Out menu signed by all the 60 men): "On occasion of NCOs and men transferring to combatent units". Stan went into Machine Gun Corps (But their archivist unable to help identify his unit, war diary or service) - but G/dad kept this move secret from family (Maybe - he saw no need to alarm them considering 20 deaths of relatives in DAVENTRY?). Only found out he was in MGC two years ago when doing my family tree (during my rehabilitation) and found old docs.

1919 - Certifcate from Maj-Gen Kellett for MGC service to CQMS SW MARRIOTT. Very responsible role.
Got Arabic bank notes (confirms he served in 'Mespot'.)
Got Cyrillic ticket stubs (noted that MGC served in NW Russia) - where??
1919 Demobbed lived Norman Rd, Abington. 4 daughters. Worked at Crockett & Jones. A gentleman.
Sep 74 aged 79 was best man for his brother in law who re-married at age 94!!

I'll spread word for your request.

Regards

Phil (EX Army & RAF - and there's a story!)

Sandy,

As you know I'm not from Northampton, and my local knowledge isn't as up to scratch as it might be! I think part of the old barracks has gone (under the Royal Mail offices?) and part remains - the School, the ATC building and the homeless centre are probably part of the old compound?

But it is not something I have particularly looked into, so I am happy to be corrected.
Steve.
I know bit off-topic but just to follow-up: I am local (but mostly housebound). You are correct Steve, however, the Royal Mail have moved out some while back into swanky new building near M1 J15A Rothersthorpe, and after laying empty barracks will now become another Tescos!
These original barracks (on Barrack Rd A508) were built just outside town northern boundary which ran down Grafton St to river and across The Mounts down to Derngate (A428 to Bedford).

Paul,

Just to clear things up a bit, the Quebec barracks at Wooton did not start to be built until 1938, and was not fully finished until the end of WW2 when it really started its association with the Regiment. It became a Pioneer Corps barracks in the 1960s being renamed as Simpson Barracks.

Steve

I'm reading through all your postings as suggested and will be in contact later about WWI and Daventry Memorial project ! But thought you may like to be aware that houses were built on simpson bks site and some MQs were updated - The HQ is now flats. It was in Pioneer Close that the tragedy occured last month of a chinese family (parents & 2 daughters) being wiped out by one chinaman from Coventry who is currently UK's most wanted.

Thanks

Your idea is a good one. But I've tried every combination, even leaving out initials, and tried different spellings of surname too. I've got a FT so I know about the fun of name-changing and transcription errors! Cheers for reply.
