« on: Friday 30 November 12 18:09 GMT (UK)  »
Hi!

I have just found out that my husband's 2x great grandfather was in the Walcot Military Band in Bath, Somerset from the 1880s to 1909 when he died. I have searched for information about the band but have found nothing. Can anybody help please?

Thank you!

If you do pop into the pub there are family photos on the wall of my great grandparents in 1903! We went in the summer and it was quite busy.

Hi Matt,

Yes, I've come across this one too! My grandmother remembered a young soldier shooting himself in the pub while cleaning his rifle. There was a door with the mark of a bullet in it many years ago.

Thank you for your interest and for taking the time to reply.

Best wishes,
Louise

Thank you for spending so much time and effort posting this information. Unfortunately Violet's middle name is Maxwell so I think this is the wrong Violet. Dorothea fits in though and thank you for the detailed  information about Robert. I have a  lot to work on here.

I think the family, Robert being German, probably had a hard time in London when WW1 broke out due to the anti German sentiment at the time. I wonder if this was why they went to America?

I will follow up the recommendations  you have suggested and look up the Social Security Death Index for details of the sisters and Robert John Carl Engel, their brother.

Am amazed at the time and effort people have put in to replying to my post. Many thanks; it is very much appreciated.

Hi Lisa!

Thank you for all this amazing detailed information and for going to the trouble to reply to my post.
These are definitely Nellie's daughters. To think that Nellie started life in Victorian Brighton where her older sisters worked in domestic service and that her daughters ended up as naturalized Americans! I'm really pleased to have this information!

Many thanks from Devon, England!
Best wishes,
Louise

Hi,

I'm looking for information regarding my 2xgreat aunt, Nellie Engel. She was born Nellie King in Brighton, East Sussex, England in 1872. She moved to Kent with two of her sisters on the death of her mother, Eliza, in 1890 then to London where she met and married Robert Wilhelm Engel in 1896.

Robert emigrated to New York in 1915 and Nellie followed in 1916 with their children: Dorothea, Mae, Violet, Robert, Gladys and Daisy.

I have found information regarding their emigration to New York and in the 1920 and 1930 U.S. Federal census. I have aslo been able to track down Nellie's death certificate; she died in 1930 and was buried at the Woodlawn Cemetery, NY.

Best wishes,

LJD

Hi Malc!

I have just found your posting regarding Sarah Ladd. She was my 3xgreat grandmother, one of her sons, George Frederick Keeler, being my 2xgreat grandfather. I haven't yet begun properly researching this side of the family but I believe her parents were a John Ladd and Elizabeth Dennington. This would need to be checked. I have no other information relating to her I'm afraid but would love to know more bout the Keelers!

Best wishes,

LJD
