Europe / Re: Irish Immigrants to Swansea S.Wales

Hello Jen,
Would you be able to give me any advice on the following?
My Catholic g.g.grandfather, John FORD, was born in the Kinsale area of Co. Cork. I discoverd him on  the 1861 census for Stroud, Glos: living with his wife Mary, who was born in Queenstown, Co. Cork, and their daughter,   Mary Anne, b. 1857 in Newport, Wales.
Would this birth be recorded in Newport? If so, where? So far I have been unable to trace any evidence on her birth. or Christening.
Mary, John's wife, died in Stroud in late 1861 and John remarried in 1862 at the Catholic Church in Stroud. It was from this record that I found out that he was a Catholic. However, the Priest at the church was unable to give me anymore information on what I had.
I would be grateful for any help you maybe able to give me.
Regards,
Jane Joy.

Cork / Re: Lookng for Thomas Ford 1847
« on: Friday 25 February 05 09:13 GMT (UK)  »
My 2xg.grandfather was called Daniel FORD, (occupation Farmer) his son, John, was born in  the Kinsale, area Co Cork c .1834.
The other information I have on John FORD is that he migrated across to Newport, Monmouth, Wales, with his wife Mary.. c.1857. They had a daughter, Mary Ann, who was born in Newport in 1857. In 1861 John became a widower, the family were living in Stroud, Gloucestershire by then. John remarried later that year to a girl called Emma COOK, who was born Whiteshill or Randwick, by  Stroud, Gloucestershire. Both John and Emma were Tailors by trade, as was John's first wife. I have a photo of Emma COOK, and more info: on her.
Regards,
Jane.
