The Common Room / Re: Church register entry
« on: Wednesday 22 October 25 15:31 BST (UK)  »
This entry was actually a copy of the original - so someone else found it interesting, while the register was still in use.  Presumably most priests were not willing to marry 2 women, so one of them 'became a man' - simple solution!

The Common Room / Church register entry

While looking for something else - I get easily distracted! I found this entry at the front of the parish register I was browsing. I wonder how many snippets we miss by not looking at those first few - often empty pages of registers?

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Re: Looking for Thomas of Houghton, Castleford. c1700

Just returned to Thomas Langfield and found my posting from last year, I am mortified that I did not thank dobfarm for his response. Dobfarm it was very helpful, thank you.  I have now found a suitable Langfield (no first name given) born Castleford 1696 BUT it is on FamilySearch with the scan on FindMyPast to which I no longer have access and neither does my local library.  If anyone could look at the scan for the finer details - like the child's name and the father's name I would be very greatful.  Thank you in anticipation.

Many more thanks to the translaters.  The bits I missed were interesting - the Justice of the Peace - I wonder if Edward was a relative he used as witness where necessary? and William Oates could be a relative of James, although I don't have a suitable William - yet!
In case you are wondering James and Phoebe had 2 children before James died 2 years later, being buried a month after her baptism.

Thank you both - I should have spotted that myself.  I must be grateful that there is an entry to be found.  It does look as if this is one written after the event - quite a long-winded entry.

The Common Room / Marriage record 1655 Halifax

Although the missing words would be useful I don't think they are essential - but have a go if you wish.  I am more interested in the fact that the Banns were published in the Market Place on 3 market days.  Has anyone else come across this, I must have recorded hundreds of marriages and never seen it before.  The marriage tool place at St John the Baptist, Halifax, Yorkshire.
Now back to the drawing board as this James age 60 was not the one I was looking for!

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Re: Eden, Edith or Judith Bairstow

But we don't know what the next few would have been named!  Timothy Eden's husband remarries after her early death and has a further 10 children - but no Edens.

I have a 6xGreat grandmother Ann Illingworth 1634 - 1701, married to John Ambler 1634 - 1714.

Thanks for your interest

Eden died after 11 years of marriage - so only 4 children, Mary, Timothy, Joseph and Hannah.

Many thanks for your support!  The 6 years were looking for Eden's birth/baptism record - I come to Rootschat for more often -  everyone is so helpful.
