Yorkshire (West Riding) / Re: Eden, Edith or Judith Bairstow

But we don't know what the next few would have been named!  Timothy Eden's husband remarries after her early death and has a further 10 children - but no Edens.

I have a 6xGreat grandmother Ann Illingworth 1634 - 1701, married to John Ambler 1634 - 1714.

Thanks for your interest

Eden died after 11 years of marriage - so only 4 children, Mary, Timothy, Joseph and Hannah.

Many thanks for your support!  The 6 years were looking for Eden's birth/baptism record - I come to Rootschat for more often -  everyone is so helpful.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Eden, Edith or Judith Bairstow

It is some time – 6 years - since I asked for help on this one and I am still looking.
Eden Bairstow married Timothy Ambler at St John the Baptist, Halifax 19 April 1742.  Her burial is at the same church 20 March 1753.  Being unable to find any suitable Eden I have decided on Judith Bairstow born 1722 and baptized Illingworth 27 May 1722.  Her parents are Abraham and Sarah (nee Firth)
My reasons – I cannot find a suitable marriage or death for Judith.  The names Eden and Edith seem to be interchangeable, as are Judith and Edith – her granddaughter has Adeth on her baptism record, married as Eden in her first marriage and thereafter used Edith until her death age 87.
What are your thoughts?  Should I just give up or is this a strong possibility?

The Common Room / Re: Remarriage?

Rosie99 You are almost certainly correct.  Mary Parton married Thomas Ellis - had 2 children - possibly only one - if the death for Thomas is Wellington,1792.  Mary (now) Ellis marries Robert Carter 1794 - possibly 6 children.  Mary, age 75 with her son Abraham in Wellington 1841. census.

Rosie you were still typing so we have overlapped. If Thomas died 1807, Mary did not presumably marry Robert in 1794 - but not impossible - separation (divorce).

Many thanks for that.  That was what I thought/hoped.  Of course when 'hope' enters the equation, you have to question your initial thoughts.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Baptisms Horsforth or Hunslet?
« on: Wednesday 24 July 24 17:20 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone clarify my problem.  I have a number of Baptisms across 2 generations of a family which seem to be recorded at both Horsforth, Leeds and Hunslet, Leeds.  Although they are both Leeds, they are north and south of the city as it is now.  I am using Ancestry and think there may have been a mix-up with the scans or pages.

Thomas Rider 3 June 1754 son of John - halfway down left page - Scan heading Horsforth turn back 1 page and there is a completely different handwriting. The other result is clearly Hunslet - label on the scan itself
Martha Rider 8 June 1772 father John - scan heading Horsforth, again turn back one page and a completely different hand,   The other result has the scan heading Leeds with the page clearly labelled Hunslet

Ann Maria Rider 10 Jun 1787 father Jonathan - Scan heading Horsforth.  Unfortunately no scan but the result from Select Births give Hunslet as the Baptism place.  However, this lady does give Horsforth as her place of birth on the 1851 census (Ann Jagger).

I would value your opinions.

Martin thank you - in the end I turned to a hard copy of Whittaker's Almanac to get the date provided by Goodies61.

Many thanks to you all.  Easter Monday was the day I expected it to be but couldn't find any proof - just didn't look at enough websites.
