Thanks Trish, I think this matches the children all fit except the parents, Jmes fits with info I had but I had a Sarah , not an Elizabeth marrying James.

I wonder if you could restate who you understood  James Winslade (b.c1790-74 Bridgewater) married you think.

I thought it was a Sarah (b. c1791-97 Bridgewater) but  perhaps I was wrong. I am a little unclear on this if you wouldnt mind reminding me what you think and perhaps where you found that again please.  Jeffrey their son is the line of Winslades I am following back.

Thanks again.
Jacqui

I wonder if he could have been born in bridgewater and then baptised in surrey. Thanks for this possible lead as it would be very interesting if we could find his line back. JAcqui

Hi RaeDavis

Welcome to Rootschat  ;D

I see from the NZ BDM that he died in 1979
https://www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/Home/

Do you know where he died and was buried?  Aside from purchasing the Death record - If you can find out the name of the Funeral Director, you could give them a call and ask what information they have on their records for him - often this will name parents etc. Cemetery Records will often give up the name of the Funeral Director, or a Newspaper Funeral/Death notice.

Did he marry in NZ?

Scotlands People:
http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/search/birth/index.aspx
Index 3 x Alexander RAE birth in Midlothian 1909 - none are in the District of Edinburgh - however, Edinburgh has a number of sub-districts which he could be registered in.

Cheers
AMBLY

What can I say, thank you for a start as before I came across this site yesterday I had not gotten anywhere with him and given up. Thanks for such proffessional advice! I know he died in Auckland and couldnt say where buried, maybe cremaed. He lived here most of adult life but had emigrated with family in 1950s I believe. He had some contact with his mother but father died when three i believe.... Anyway thanks and this info will be very helpful I am sure, thanks again, Jacqui
