Thanks Christopher ...

Please remind me ... was Griffiths Valuation only inclusive of land owners?

It's definitely the period when they were having their children in Rathaspick.

Appreciate!

Westmeath / Re: Rathaspick -- TAAFFE

It was suggested that I post my friend's TAAFFE info, now that I know where Rathaspick is!

Bridget ???, born c. 1826 & Thomas TAAFFE (he appears to have died in Ireland) had at least 2 daughters:
Bridget TAAFFE, born c. 1854
sister, Mary TAAFFE, born c. 1856

There is also an "older" brother to Mary and Bridget called John FLYNN!  So, I am imagining that Bridget's marriage to TAAFFE was a 2nd marriage.

The mother Bridget, daughter Bridget and the son, John Flynn all ended up in Brooklyn NY.  The obituaries for both Bridgets and daughter Mary mention that they came from Rathaspick, Westmeath, Ireland.

So, if this family rings any bells ... I'd love to hear about it!

Thanks,
Diane  :)

Westmeath / Rathaspick

Hello,

I am helping a friend whose family comes from Rathaspick, Westmeath.

I seem to be internet and geographically challenged as I have not been able to find an on-line map showing this community!  It would sure help my research to know "where" this town is!

Any help, much appreciated.  BTW ... the family's name is Taaffe or Taffe and they emigrated c. 1870 to Brooklyn NY.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Diane :-)

Thanks so much for looking Ken ... appreciate it!

Not the first family members where I show a "space" for where they are buried!

BTW ... Daniel's wife, Rachel remarried in 1886, to Henry Hicklin.  I suspect that the children buried with Daniel might have a surname of Hicklin ... basically, children from Rachel's 2nd marriage ...

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Chadderton Cemetery -- MI or Photo request
« on: Wednesday 19 October 05 14:02 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

Daniel Butterworth died 29 January 1885 at the age of 26.  His wife, Rachel purchased a grave in Chadderton Cemetery ... it looks like G8.41 (I can send via e-mail an image of her purchase receipt).  I have learned from Oldham Crematorium (holds the records) that 3 children who died between 1887 & 1892 are buried with Daniel.  They want 22 pounds to reveal who else is buried with him.

So, I am hoping that someone might either have MIs for the cemetery (I have checked internment.net for the cemetery and Daniel is not listed ... maybe it is a grave with no headstone) or could check this grave location and take a photo of either the "space" or monument there.

Thanks much,
Diane :-)

Lancashire / Re: Prestwich Asylum Admissions, Late 1800s ... Lookup please

Have confirmed that James Wolfenden, who died in 1888 in Prestwich, is our James Wolfenden from Oldham.  Found the letter of administration for his estate!

So, it would seem that he was at Prestwich at the time of his death ... would like to confirm that he was at the Asylum!

Thanks, Diane :-)
