Cavan / Re: checking details of baptismal entry

You can either go to or write to the:
Registry Office,
Cavan Hospital
Cavan, Republic of Ireland

Give them the date/homeplace/name of the child.
Ask for a photocopy of the original birth record.
There is a fee for this, but it is nominal.  It was about one pound before the euro came in.
You can also ask for a certified copy of the birth record, but that is not the best choice.  It is newly made and transcription errors are sometimes a problem; also, it costs many times more.  A copy of the original record is much preferred to anything else.

Cavan / Re: Lindsay family from Cootehill area

The Ashfield Parish Church of Ireland in Kildrumsherdan Parish was established in 1821.  It was called a chapel of ease, for the convenience of the people living out in the countryside.

This family that you are seeking may have belonged to either the Cootehill Church of Ireland, Drumgoon Parish with records starting in 1802, or the Killesherdoney Parish Church of Ireland in Kildrumsherdan which has records beginning in 1826.

The surname Wallace is often Presbyterian, and I find a Martha Wallace, born 1793, and baptised in the Seceder Presbyterian Meetinghouse.  Her parents were Hugh Wallace and Mary Adams.   Since weddings usually took place in the bride's church, you might want to check for a marriage in a Presbyterian Meetinghouse in the Cootehill area.

I may be able to do a lookup for you in the two Church of Ireland registers that I mentioned above.  I would think that the Killesherdoney Ch of Ireland would be the best choice.

Regarding the listing of Wm. A WOODS, in the Ulster Covenant.   I looked at the signature again and it could just as easily be Wm. H. WOODS.  That would fit in with the other listings mentioned.

Another source:

Ulster Covenant of 1912 has one listing for WOODS in Cootehill:

WOODS, Wm. A. of Cootehill

Monaghan / Re: Any Presbyt. Graveyards in Carrickmacross or Drum area?
« on: Wednesday 03 November 10 14:41 GMT (UK)  »
Drum has at least two Presbyterian graveyards.  The oldest is in the center of the village behind the old meetinghouse/school.  The newer one is beside the Drum Presbyterian Meetinghouse, which is still holding services.

I'm curious as to which Presbyterian family name you are researching in Drum.  Perhaps I can be of some help.

Don't know if this will help or just complicate things....but.....the townland of Corranewy is right on the border of the Parish of Ematris and the Parish of Aghabog.  Might try the Church of Ireland in Aghabog if all else fails.

1.  The spelling of the townland is Corranewy and it is in the Parish of Ematris, Co. Monaghan.  The PLU is Cootehill and that is where the marriage would have been registered IF it took place after 1845 [when Civil marriage registrations began for Church of Ireland.]

2.  It is usual for most marriages to take place in the church of the bride.  If the bride was from the Cootehill area in Co. Cavan, look for records in the Drumgoon Parish Church of Ireland.

If the William Brown/Margaret McVitty turns out to be the parents of your William Brown, I have a few more in the family I've seen in Cootehill Presbyterian church records.
