Hello Ron,

I wonder if you can help me please. In your entry of 24 March 2010 you mention Thomas Storey marrying Isabel Fothergill on 10th June 1799 in Kirby Stephen.

They did live at Birkrigg and would be very interested to learn more about them, as I am also a descendant.

Could you expand on where Deep Gill is please, as from my research there were no Storeys in the Deep Gill in Mallerstang.

I am looking for the father of thomas Storey Senior.

Any information would be greatfully received.

Regards

Hello Fellsman,

In March, this year, you posted a request for information about the family of Robert Storey of Carlton.

Hopefully we can help with your request for information about Robert and his family, as Robert is my Gt, Gt, grandfather.

We can confirm your findings, from the 1881 census.

With regards to Henry, our research indicates that Robert and Alice did not have a son called Henry.
Parish records show that Robert and Alice had five children:
   Thomas, christened, 15th December 1839 – Page 130, entry 1037.
   Joseph, christen 17th May 1841 – Page 134, entry 1070.
   William, christened 10th September 1843 – Page 142, entry 1132.
   John, christened 24 May 1846 – Page 149, entry 1189.
   Isabella, christened 19th May 1848 – Page 154, entry 1225.
All at Holy Trinity Church, Coverham.

Looking at William Storey, the elder brother to Robert, our records suggest that William was married to Isabella and was living in Grassington at the time of the 1851 census. William is aged 50 years and born in Mallerstang, Westmoreland. Unfortunately we are not aware of Isabella’s maiden name or where they got married.

Are you able to expand on this please?

We can confirm that Robert died in 1884 and was buried on 10th December 1885 in Coverham, aged 81 years (Parish Register – Coverham, Page 154, entry 1227).

His wife, Alice died in 1892 and was buried on 18th October 1892, again in Coverham, aged 70 years (Parish Register – Coverham Page 167, entry 1331).

This left Isabella alone. Unfortunately she was lame and blind. This is confirmed in the 1901 census from Huddersfield where she is living with Joseph and Margaret, (son of Robert and Alice) and their family. They obviously moved for the work.

Look forward to hearing from you.
