My grand uncle was Laurence Mackey. He was known as Lar Mackey. His brother Michael (known as Mickie) was in C company. Michael was my grandfather. The family lived in 23 North William Street. I have tried to correct a lot of publications which put his name down as Leo Mac Kay, and other such distortions. Even after I send  his birth, marriage and death certs, they still persist. I even got one publisher stating that they got the names from the National Museum, and they cannot change them. So be it, Lar died in 1958, and is buried in Glasnevin.
If you want more genealogy about him it is on my family web site. From my grandfathers pension record, he states that he was also involved in the attack, on the Hotel.

In 1901, 10 Emily Place.  Frank and  Mary Mackey (nee Keenan) lived with their children. One of which was my grandfather Michael Mackey.

There were families with the surname Macken. Indeed my grandfather's birth cert is something to behold if you want to see how even a registrar could get it wrong. Also in North Dock were a family by the name of Mackesy.

As far as my research goes all the Mackey's were related.

Emily Place can be seen on the OSI map of the area C.1897.  It was off Sherriff Street, just a few yards from St Laurence O'Tooles Church. Its now redeveloped, as a street it no longer exists.

The interesting thing is that there were several lanes of cottages off Mayor Street, Sheriff Street. Brady's Cottages, Orrs Cottages, Emily Place etc. In looking at Griffiths it looks like the  1st cottage was occupied by the owner or landlord.

Hi, I've just retrieved a death cert re a John Knox, died in 1883 in the north city. This is part of the search to find the grandfather of Agnes Knox.

He was 75 and it looks as if he died in a night asylum. I was wondering if someone got dementia etc. in 1883, might it be, that he would be put into a night asylum?

I am assuming that he died in the  Bow Street , night asylum, workhouse, North Dublin Union.

Said, Patrick Joseph Knox was an uncle of my father. Where did you get the details of his birth?

I believe that a Mary Knox (1830 - 23 June 1892), buried in Glasnevin grave Ki255 may have been his grandmother.  How could I get her maiden name?

My fathers aunt, was Agnes Knox. She was born in 1888, and her mother was Catherine Knox. She lived on Camden Street Dublin. I would be interested to know what became of her. Her father was a Christopher Knox, who along with all the males in said family were coopers.
