I've had a reply from Software Mackiev:

We were able to reproduce the issue on our side and we are getting reports from other users to collect data and investigate it together with Ancestry.

1. As a workaround hints are accessible through Ancestry website just fine, so you may consider temporarily viewing and merging them there and then sync to FTM until we figure out what's happening.

2. Alternatively, you can also continue using FTM 2024 Web Search without viewing the source result file first, but merging it directly through Web Search results using "Merge" button, it should work as intended.

3. Also, you may right-click on the record and select "Open in New Window". It won't show a record first, but you may edit a link on Address bar by replacing "search" phrase in the domain name in the URL with "www", like this:

FROM:
https://search.ancestry.com/search/collections/1054/records/509476

TO:
https://www.ancestry.com/search/collections/1054/records/509476

So the record will show fine. Meanwhile engineers continue to investigate the issue and looking for a permanent solution.

Edit:
Software Mackiev appear to have the cured the problem since yesterday afternoon

I've been using FTM 2024 for the last few weeks, having converted all my files from FTM 2019.  I've noticed over the last couple of days that it will not display any Ancestry data.   If I view an individual and then press the green leaf, I get a precis of the records available and if I then try and view one of the records I get an error message:

The program cannot display the webpage
There was a problem communicating with the secure web proxy server (HTTPS)

I've tried logging out of Ancestry (from FTM) and then logging back in to no avail.

Doesn't sound right at all.   I have 5 trees that I manage using FTM, all have been converted (several times) from older versions.   FTM2024 does seem to be slightly slower than the previous version but nothing horrendous.   It's recently got another issue that I will post separately.

Technical Help / Re: Unable to link FTM to Ancestry

Hi,

Is your Ancestry account using two factor authentication.?
If so trying turning it off, logging in through FTM.
Then turn it back on again.
FTM are having issues with the two factor authentication, at least on some accounts.

Brilliant - that's cured the problem

Thanks very much

Have you tried logging out of Ancestry, starting FTM and then selecting Sync and in the drop down menu enter the new Ancestry log in details?

I hadn't, I've just tried that and it just adds a stage where the browser is opened at the Ancestry Logon - I put in my details and then I get another browser window open with the "Ancestry User Authenticated" and the FTM is left with the logon dialogue box.

Technical Help / Unable to link FTM to Ancestry

I've used Family Tree Maker and Ancestry for many years, with FTM linked to Ancestry to provide hints etc.

I've recently changed my logon email with Ancestry so attempted to re-link FTM with Ancestry using the new email address.   Once I enter the details, a browser page opens with a message "Ancestry User Authenticated"   In FTM, the dialogue box showing the logon details just has a spinning circle and never closes.

Has anyone got an idea how to clear this before I log an issue with Software Mackiev??

Technical Help / Re: Scanning old negatives
« on: Sunday 06 October 24 09:37 BST (UK)  »
Thanks all,   I really like the idea of using the existing all in one with the lid up (I tried with the lid down some time ago - poor result).   As Gadget said, the cost of a large format negative scanner caused my wife's Yorkshire roots to show themselves  ;D

I going to spend some time playing with my all in one and see what results I can get.

Many Thanks

Thanks everyone for the ideas.   I used to have a Canon flatbed scanner with loads of filmstock adaptors (but not 120/620).   It went some years ago, sadly.   I did try scanning on my Canon all in one but the results were indifferent.   I'm going to try leaving the lid open and adjust scanning dpi.

Failing that, I'll look at the scanner suggestions.

Technical Help / Scanning old negatives
« on: Friday 04 October 24 16:48 BST (UK)  »
8 years or so ago, I bought a negative/slide scanner for all my photographs (mainly 35mm but with some instamatic)

I now want to scan all of my father’s negatives which appear to be two and a quarter square (inches).  I think, from memory they’re maybe 120/620 roll stock.

Any recommendations for a scanner that can do do the job?  Needs to be USB connection.
