Hi
I have little information unfortunately, but will let you know what I have.  As far as I know his name was Fredrich Wilhelm Harbach and he served the war with the German army.  After the war he worked for approx 15 years with another service department, before bringing his family to Australia.  That would have been in the early 60's.  They settled in Adelaide.
Is this person any relation to you?  I am particularly interested in knowing his war service and medal receipt.  Contact was made with the embassy to try to get this information but they passed it on to the Defence services and sent their reply back in German.  When it was translated they really did not give any helpful information, so I am not sure where to go next.
Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi PM

Yes that is the right person.  Tracking him from Australia to South Africa is the challenge.  I have a lot of information on the rest of the family, but he is still a bit of a question mark.  Do you have anything that could help me find out his actual year and place of death?  So far it is a lot of guesswork.

Europe / Harbach war service

Hi

I am trying to locate information on war service during WWII in the name of Harbach in Germany.  This man was in the German Army and served throughout the duration of the war.  He was not part of the SS or Nazi party, just a normal serving member of the forces.  He and his family moved to Australia after the war and settled in the southern states, which is where he died.  Now I am trying to find information on his war service period, any medals that he may have received, etc.  I have tried the embassy, but without any success.  Can anyone assist with this query?

Hi Derek

What a great site.  I was not aware that it existed.  Could you assist me with some of the terms please?  What is s/s and what does it mean with the start and end dates?  I am not too sure whether this is the correct person that I am looking for, but certainly could be.  This one is down as being born in Flodin, but not too sure where that is.  I am doubtful that it is in Cornwall.  Is there anywhere else in this site to hunt for further information?

Hope to hear back from you again.

Thanks

Daree

Hi Shep

Yes the information that ancestry has released is very helpful indeed.  Unfortuntately, as with most arrests and transporting of convicts to Australia, the details of where these people came from and their family connections are non-existant.  I now have a number of convicts in my tree, and the tracking of their beginnings are difficult.  I have a copy of John Daintry's death certificate, and unlike his wife, had obviously not told anyone who his parents were, so his birth family remains a mystery for now.

Thank you so much for your interest in this person.  You have been very helpful indeed.

Hi

Would your name be John?  I already have a lot of information about the family in Australia, but I was particularly looking for more about his parents and any other siblings besides John.  I am assuming that you may be the son of Patrick and Elizabeth????  I am on a committee that is organising a combined Daintry family reunion for 2011, so would love to hear back from you and would also appreciate any assistance with your family and any other details of ancestors and descendants.  Would be happy to exchange any information that you want.  I can be contacted on (*) if you would prefer.

Hi Craig

Thanks for getting back.  Such a shame that you do not live in Cornwall, but never mind - ever hopeful of a direct link from the area of origin. I will send you what I have on Christopher and his offspring, as well as what I have on his siblings.  I'm afraid that I do not have as much as I would like, but every little bit helps to create the picture.
Do you have any photos of any of this family.  Christopher, his siblings and/or his parents?  I have photos of Christopher's two daughters, but am still hunting for more.
I will get things off to you shortly.  Thanks again for your assistance.

Hi Craig

Thanks for getting back to me.  Where are you? I am in Sydney Australia.  I have no idea how to find out where and exactly when Christopher died.  He had two daughters here, and obviously they have passed away, but I have tried to contact their descendants to see if they know anything about him or his family, but no luck as yet.  I seem to have more information than they do and I don't think they are that interested.

Henry married Maria in 1886 in Sydney and died in 1910 in Bellingen NSW.  He had three sons in South Africa and a daughter in UK.  One of his sons, William, died in Sydney, so I guess that some of them came back to Australia, though his daughter Irene did not.  I assume that you have this information.

I would be grateful for anything that you can tell me about Christopher in particular, but the family in general.  I will do what I can at my end if there is something that I can help you with.

Hi Shep

Yes this is the same John Daintry.  Since then I have received more information which could link to this man.  I am unsure, so trying to check the details. If what I have now been told is linked to John, then it would mean there is another Daintry in Australia who was his brother, and also transported for his crimes.  Maybe through him I can get the parents and siblings information.  All a bit up-in-the-air really.

Anything that can be added to this puzzle would be appreciated.  A reunion is planned for John's descendants late next year, so trying to piece everything together first is becoming difficult.
