Hi Dave
No marriage certificate found and therefore no birth certificates
Have not been able to locate their death certificates in Canada. A difficult place to research!
Any suggestions for an online site in English?

Hi
Wish we knew!
William the son actually states he was born Pt laby, Lower Canada, but as we know there is no such place. His accent probably accounted for this. Never any mention of his parents names. Could have been caught up in the 1837 Canadian Rebellion as there is a William Swan who arrived in NSW Australia in !843 from Cambridge on the Marquis Of Hastings which was carrying a ship full of Canadian rebels to the colonies instead of trialing them in England. Too much for Queen Victoria!
He married in a Scots Presbyterian Church in Sydney to a Roman Catholic  widow called Elizabeth Cain, nee Cassidy in 1853.
There are so many looking, but still the same brick wall for everyone.
Cheers
Pauline

Hi
My 4th Great grandfather is John Fisher born c1730 Dunferline, Fife, Scotland.
He married Christian  (Christen) BRUCE but no marriage certification found.
They had 4 known children Christian, John, Robert & Catharine all born in Dunfermline between 1768 & 1776.

Can any one help me with proving that Christian is linked to William Earl Of Kincardine BRUCE b 1700 & Janet Roberton 1705 and married 14 Feb 1726 in Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh.

I require a marriage certificate to prove who Christians parents are?

Thank you
Pauline

Family History Beginners Board / Rev William Joseph Larkin from Ireland

Hi
I am looking for the birth place of a Roman Catholic priest Father W J Larkin who left from Liverpool or the next port of call Cork Ireland and was the Chaplin on the 'Duke of Newcastle " vessell which arrived into Brisbane, Queensland, Australia Dec 1862. He then moved on to the Westcoast, South Island of New Zealand. Moved then to Lawrence, Otago New Zealand before being moved to Hawaii.
We beleive he new a Mary O'Neill in Ireland who also emmigrated to NZ and made Father Larkin guardian of her 6 children before she died in May 1874.
He was responsible for builing Catholic Schools and created a great deal of controversy where ever he preached. Any info would be much appreceiated.

Hi Kerry
Thank you for answering my request.
Unfortunetely, we have nothing else other than where he said on his marriage cerificate and childrens birth certificates of where he was from. Because he may have been orphaned he might not actually have the place of birth correct. Very frustrating.
Were the siblings you speak of born in the same area?
Kind Regards
Pauline

Family History Beginners Board / William Swan b 1820's Pt Levie, Quebec, Canada

Hi
Is there any one who has info on this William who may have been orphaned when he was 2 years.
His parents may have been William (38 years) & Letitia (25 years) Swan who both died around 1824  & 10 Oct 1824.
William married Elizabeth CAIN (Nee Cassidy) 28 July 1853, Sydney had 7 children,& died  5 Jan 1871, Lonsdale West Melbourne.
We have not been able to find a place of Birth or confirm how he arrived in Australia.
I believe he was caught up in the 1838 Canadian Rebellion and arrived out on the Marquis of Hastings 4 Feb 1841 arriving in Sydney with many others as prisoners not convicts, as Queen Victoria couldn't be bothered going thru all the trials & decided the Colonies should have these rebels.
I'd appreciate any birth or Parents marriage and place of their birth which we believe is Scotland somewhere?

Kind Regards
Pauline

Hello Ambly
For a first time user of Rootschat I am amazed at your very kind responce.
Sorry that I wasn't very explicit. We are trying to trace where he was born.
We have made contact with a descendant from Joseph Melville Wolfe's 2nd marriage Mary O'Neill who is a direct descendant of my husband, but once again no record of where born in Ireland.
Could have been a convict, but haven't yet been able to confirm as she must have married Joseph in Tasmania.
When Mary O'Neill remarried to a George Clark from London they had 4 children, 3 went to Hawaii & 1 stayed here in NZ as he was with a wet Nurse and then fostered following his mothers death when he was 4 days old.
You're probably not wanting all this info.

We did know some of what you have told but you have confirmed the child born & noted as M Woolfe. We were hoping it may have been the 2nd Joseph Melville Wolfe (as you have foun in 1912)who did come across to NZ 2x found on shipping records as an actor following we thought his father who died at 35 years. I do have a report of his death found on papers past that I have sent you.

He was a very well liked Actor here for his short stint. There are 2 sections mentioned on the same page 15 dated 4 March 1865.
So now we must assume that Joseph was married before probably in Europe where he was supposed to have worked before arriving in AUS.

Can I ask where you obtained the Tasmanian convict information? You certainly have done a great job researching your family.
Thank's a million for contacting me with so much.

Cheers
Pauline
