Europe / Swedish to English Translation Help
« on: Saturday 25 February 23 21:46 GMT (UK)  »
I am interested in the family of Rasmus Jorgensen on this Swedish Household Examination Record. I have all the dates figured out, but am wondering if it can be determined who they are living with, and what the notes on the far right indicate. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks again Ian! I believe I have located Kristian Johannes August's marriage in 1917 to Karen Margrethe Olsen, and have identified two daughters so far - Garda (1922) and Inger (1923). I have believe I have also located Hans Peder's marriage in 1902 to Anna Christine Pedersen, and so far have identified what looks like three children - Karen (1903), Eleonora Augusta (1907) and Erik Hans (1918). I have not yet been able to find any trace of Maren.

Thanks Ian! I had not yet figured out that Rasmus remarried after his wife's death. I believe I just located his death record from 1912, and his wife Josefa's death record from 1914.

Europe / DENMARK - Rasmus Jorgensen

I would like to know more information about the family of Rasmus Jorgensen, born 14 Aug 1833 in Herstedvester. I have not been able to locate when he died. His children Hans Peder (1 Mar 1875), Maren Marie (12 May 1876), and Kristian Johannes (19 Aug 1879) were all born in Virestad, Sweden, but returned to Denmark, the home of their parents, after their mother Inger's death in 1880. I would like to know what happened to these three children and if they had families of their own. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Does it look like Inger was in Sweden when she became pregnant, and then went to Copenhagen to have the baby, and then back to Sweden for a short time before going back to Copenhagen?

WOW! Thanks so much for all your hard detective work Ian. Your hunch in locating the link through Inger Dorothea was correct. Now to find what happened to Inger... Can anyone provide a good translation of this document? If what I'm seeing is correct, I don't see the name of a father listed? All her life Chrestina had been celebrating her birthday just a few days off, and we never knew her to use the names of Frederikke or Elisabeth. I have found an old picture that says on the back, "Chrestina's stepfather," so if that is correct than Inger Dorothea married at some time. Also, we were always told she came to the United States in 1886 after the death of her parents. Will be interesting to know more of the story. Attached is a photograph of Chrestina, who lived to be 98 years old. She was a tiny little woman, but a very hard worker, and everyone loved her.

Europe / Gortler family of Niedersachsen, German
« on: Tuesday 12 July 16 06:56 BST (UK)  »
Seeking information about the family of my great-great-grandfather, who originated in Germany. Henry Frederic William Gortler was born in Feb 1876, in Niedersachsen. He was the son of Wilhelm Frederick and Wilhelmina (Schultz) Gortler. Henry had an sister named Bertha and an older brother named Carl, and a younger sister named Wilhelmina who was born in 1877. The family left Germany in 1883 aboard the Circassia and arrived in New York in January of 1884. I have a lot of information about the family after coming to the United States, but nothing of their life in Germany. At the time of their emigration they were living in the village of Runingen. They may also have used the spellings of Gurtler and Guertler. They had relatives on the father's side who lived in Braunschweig.

Europe / Denmark - Inger Dorothea Pedersen
« on: Tuesday 12 July 16 06:49 BST (UK)  »
Seeking information about Inger Dorothea Pedersen, who was born 1 Jun 1851 at Kastrup, Praesto, Denmark, to Peder Hansen and Frederikke Elisabeth Capion. In 1860 the family was living at Overindinge, Svaerdborg. I cannot find any additional information about Inger after this years. Her parents and siblings moved in 1871 to Hoor Parish in Skane, Sweden. I have been told that Inger moved to Copenhagen in 1874. Any additional information about what happened to Inger, and if she had a family, would be very much appreciated.
