Thanks Carole,

Do you think the only way to find out is to order Birth Certificates or would there be another way?

Thanks again

Scotland / John Munro(e) b 1837

I am trying to find some information about my G G Grandfather, John Munro(e).  I know he was born in 1837 and he died on 20 Oct 1905 in West Ham, London.  He married Susannah Barker on 25 Dec 1868 at St Thomas Church, Stepney.  They had 8 children.

Elizbabeth b.1870 - d.1871
Mary Jane b.1872 d.1964
John b.1875 d.1918
Alexander b.1877 d.1956
Susannah b.1879
Joseph b.1882 d.1922
Thomas b.1885
Arthur b.1887 d.1920

My main query is on all of the Census records it just says John Munro(e) b.1837 was born in "Scotland" - I cannot find any information about exactly where he was born.  I do know from his marriage certificate that his father was called Alexander and that when he married in 1869 his father, Alexander, is recorded as deceased.  Any information about my G G Grandfather would be much appreciated.  His occupation was a Ship's Clerk.

Thank you!

Essex / Re: Townsend - West Ham - a missing child

I did not research too deeply with John Charles Pipe - only to confirm he had married my Great Grandmother.  I found John Charles Pipe in the 1881 census and I am sure he was married with a young son, also called John Pipe.  I believe his first wife then died - I cannot find my notes but I do recall finding an entry for her death and then he married my Great Grandmother.  Not sure what happened to the young boy.  I also recall the name Coppock being on the 1881 census when I found him.

Mary Ann Sida (my Great Grandmother's maiden name) married John Charles Pipe on 25 Dec 1883 at St Mark church, Victoria Docks.  John is stated to be a widower and a labourer.  Both Mary Ann and John are stated to be living at 6 Clara Street.  John's Father - John Pipe.

John Charles Pipe died on 6 Dec 1884, a farm labourer, cause of death, small pox.  C Coppock registered the death.

I have marriage and death certificates.  Hope this helps.

Can someone please look up and post information on a shop in Swanscombe Street, Canning Town around 1920 owned by either Charles Townsend or Sophia Fenton.  Sophia sometimes used the name of Townsend although she was not married to Charles.  I think the shop may have sold sweets but apparently it could have sold other items as well.

Thank you

Harriet married Joseph Collins Q2 1890 Reading v2c p688.

In 1901 they were living at 6 Dunmow Rd West Ham.   Incidentally the 1901 says
Harriet was B in West Ham unlike the 1891 which says Sandown IOW
