Hi everyone and hello to fourthdaughter!
It looks like I have not been on this site for 3 years! Oh dear!
Obviously fourthdaughter you are related closely to me and possibly live in Perth.
Aunty Jean now lives in Uncle Digger's unit which is only up the road from where his elder brother Clarry used to live and where mum grew up. The house is still there on the corner of Swan Rd together with the duplex built on!
From what I understand, nana didn't want to look after your dad so he was put in those homes. Aunty Jean lived with my mum for a while, but ran away at around 12yrs. Obviously my nana was not a nurturing mother! (Certainly not by what my mum says!)
I believe that my papa (Clarry) used to meet up with your dad and his sisters at the local pub, The Leopoldo, as nana didn't want him to see them! Mum also never got to meet her paternal grandfather (Percival Fletcher - remember that Clarry was the eldest child of Janet and not a true Gledhill). I found out later that he had been living in Bicton until his death which unfortunately was only a fees years prior to my discovery. We have been able to contact a relation on that side, but although he did agree to meet with mum, he doesn't want to have further contact. It's such a shame!
Mum has given me quite a few photos and there are a few over east in Victoria of Janet and her family.
I would love to see the photos you have and compare. You are more than welcome to see mine and take any copies of you wish.
By the way, I just remember whilst in the middle if writing this, that mum met up with some of Janet's family members from Victoria around 2 years ago. Unfortunately I couldn't meet them. :-(
Take care and please get in touch with me. Mum is in close contact to Aunty Jean and sees her often, and now lives in Willagee. I live in East Vic Park.

Hello Ian,

Thank you for your recent reply and wow you live so close.

I will need to look into the details again, but the marriage and birth of her first child was recorded in Sweden. I remember finding this on a fiche a long long time ago!

Let me know what you need to have in order to look into this further for me.

Beth

Hi there.
Yes Janet Ellen was my great grandmother. Her first son, Percival Clarence Fletcher was my Grandfather. When Janet Ellen married Leslie Gledhill, he was adopted at the age of 12 and he became Percival Clarence Gledhill. My mum was the only child of his marriage to Elizabeth Jean Stewart.
Janet Ellen and Leslie had 3 children, 1 son and 2 daughters. One daughter is still alive and I am in touch with her. I am also in touch with another grand-daughter.
I have a few photos of the Sanders Family and will hunt them up.
I also have lots more info if you need it.
Love to hear more.

Europe / Richard James m Marie Eriksdotter, Sweden
« on: Wednesday 09 June 10 04:21 BST (UK)  »
Hi there!

I am looking for the parentage of Marie Eriksdotter.
I have an unconfirmed birth year of 1814/15 in Oudinefs, Karlsburg, Sweden.
She married Richard James in Sweden and had a son, Richard, in 1837 before travelling back to Cornwall, Engalnd. Their next son was born in Cornwall in 1841, so they must have left sweden before then.

If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it very much.

Thanks!

Channel Islands Lookup Requests / Re: Jersey, Channel Islands - Le Duc
« on: Wednesday 09 June 10 01:54 BST (UK)  »
Thanks everyone!
I'm not sure if this is the family, but it may explain a few things.
Eliza Le Duc moved to Lichfield, Staffordshire and and married a Gentleman's son in 1874, Charles Greenwood.
The story goes that he was disinherited from the family and moved to Australia as he married beneath him. Eliza was a servant. The Greenwoods had a majestic Manor in Lichfield.
If her 'brother' was in prison, this may have added to the problem.

Let me delve a little further!
