Lancashire / Re: Manchester Cathedral look up?
« on: Sunday 12 February 12 01:22 GMT (UK)  »
If you found the marriage through the IGI index on Family search, it's possible that they didn't get married at the Cathedral but at a parish in the Manchester area. I found IGI records for members of my family that says the same but when I got a copy of the marriage certificate, the marriage took place in another church in the area.
If you have the 1861 census, have a look at the parish they are living in, this could be where they married.  Just a thought, hope it helps.

Just had a quick look at the 1851 census, only one William Williams, Brewer, age 27 born Llanrhydd Denbighshire, unmarried. He was working for Hugh Davies at "The George Inn" Market Street, Ruthin.

Did a search of the 1861 census by occupation and name of William Williams. The only one that came back was as follows.

Address: Bridge Street, Ruthin, Denbigh.

William Williams aged 39, Brewer by trade

Elizabeth Williams (Wife) aged 39

Mary Davies aged 66 Widow...........Could be Williams Mother-in-law as same name as Thomas Davies

Thomas Davies aged 11 Nephew (Born in Chester)

Census Ref: RG09, Piece 4290, Folio 75, Page 10

Possible that the witness at the marriage are relations of Elizabeth.

Hope this helps.

Lancashire / Re: Salford Photo - Identification
« on: Monday 17 January 11 01:27 GMT (UK)  »
If your family roots originate from Salford, do you know which area or parish they lived in? The reason being that each parish church had a Rose Queen, and there were many parishes in the City cc1925.   Salford Local History Library has a huge collection of old news papers going back to 1858. It's possible this photo was taken to be publish in the Salford City Reporter.
They may be able to help, you can contact them on the following link.

Or, maybe if you post on 'Look Ups' someone may be going to the library who would be willing to see if they could find out for you who is the Rose Queen in your photo.

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Re: 1841 census. Elizabeth Buckley
« on: Wednesday 22 December 10 15:54 GMT (UK)  »
Hello jjabott,

I have been researching my Buckley roots for some years now.  I have the marriage certificate of my 2nd Great Grandfather John Buckley, his father is recorded as Hammond Buckley, Stonemason. I cannot find John living with Hammond (who also used the name Ammond) in any census record but have found Hammond, a stonemason, living with his family in Dukinfield from 1851. Hammond married Ann Lockwood and they did have a daughter Elizabeth b 1838, she was Christened in Dukinfield and her birth was registered in Stalybridge.

If you don't have this information already, hope my findings help.

Thank you KM1971 for pointing me in the right direction. I did a search on F M Past site and came up with the following.

John Love No 1739 52nd Regiment of Foot.
Joined 19th July 1843 aged 19 in Armagh
Discharged 3rd May 1864 after 20 years service, unfit due to Rheumatism, blind in left eye, impaired vision in right eye
He served 10years 26 days in the East Indies, 3years 120 days in North America, but no dates.

I feel this must be the John Love I am looking for but know nothing about the 52nd regiment or where they were in Armagh.

Also, thanks to agnadowey I did a Google of Barrack Hill, it appears there was Gough Barracks there at the time.

Feel I am getting some where with your help, thanks again.

Thank you Neil, what a quick response. I will compare the dates with my records to see if they give me any more clues.

I can only guess both Father's to be alive at the time, given the information I have on the certificate.
