Hi All

Thanks for those bits - I meant to say that all his children I already know about etc.
He died at the Birkenhead workhouse in January 1925 with Florence listed as a next of kin so definitely him even though no mention of his middle names.

All I want to discover is his whereabouts between after the 1871 census and before he married in 1909 - and ideally where he was on the 1911 census

I wonder if anyone can assist please.
I'm trying to find out if someone may be able to help in advising who or what family was living at 18 Dial Way Sheffield in and around 1970 - say between 1967 and 1973.
I'm not local to the Sheffield area and wondered if anyone could assist - Electoral Rolls I would guess would give the answer but I would need someone to visit the Sheffield Archives as I cannot locate anything on line.
Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Still the search option/facility appears to have gone backwards though and appears more difficult to navigate! ha ha!

Hi All,

The website for this yesterday seemed to have some IT issues or similar and then today its working but showing a new layout.

The search facility looks a lot more unfriendly than before and it seems to bring up photos but then when you click on the pic it gives you loads of garble...

Have they joined Stockport image archive now in making you pay to see the images does anyone know?  :'(

Charlotte his wife died in 1962 with her death registered in the Ashton area of Lancashire.
The one vision I have of any of the children's marriage certificates was eldest son Joseph Elijah Banner in 1950 - this record confirms his father as Arthur Leslie Banner and that he worked as a Corporation Labourer - no comment stating he was deceased
I've also seen your private message - that is not the right Arthur - there was an Arthur Banner born in 1884 and the Emily it refers to as his wife he was with prior to 1921 with records on the 1939 Register matching with this other Arthur Banner unfortunately

Hi All,
Pretty stumped on this one and need assistance please.
I have an Arthur Leslie Banner born late in 1883 in Wednesbury, Staffordshire.
He served in WW1 and had a chequered career whilst in the Army and there are a number of Army records relating to service between 1914 and 1920 at which point he was discharged from the army, comments in some of his army records do make reference to medical issues around mental health (possibly a clue to where he ended up???).
He married on 14th August 1920 to Charlotte Ash with the marriage certificate confirming he has been widowed previously and worked as a Rubber Worker and listed as aged 35 (should be 36) and that he was living at 115 Holte Road, Aston.
The birth certificate of his and Charlotte's first child Joseph Elijah Banner who was born on 20th January 1921 states they were living at 19 back 188 Mount Street, Aston and that Arthur was now listed as a Corporation Worker.
Records suggest that they had another 2 children Clifford in 1924 and Charles in 1927 in the Hadfield area of Glossop, Derbyshire.
The 1939 National Register has all 3 children and Charlotte living at 20 Bank Bottom, Hadfield, Glossop, Derbyshire with Charlotte listed as married.
However I am unable to locate Arthur in 1939 or even him, Charlotte and Joseph (who would have been a few months old) anywhere on the 1921 census which is even more baffling!  Also I am unable to find any death record of Arthur.
It's really strange how he has just gone off the map and why the family are not on the 1921 census - any help would be appreciated on this one - thanks

Ok all
Certificate has arrived but I'm still stumped!  ???

Walter Sefton was aged 21 on his marriage record at West Derby Registry Office so still matches up that he was born in 1892 - marriage date was 3rd December 1913

he is working as a Ships Steward it states and was living at 9 Gwladys Street, Walton at the time of the marriage (sadly where the Pickering's were living in 1911 - his wife Annie Pickering's family)

His father is listed as Joseph Sefton - he was working as a Soldier - no mention of it stating deceased.

Also no witnesses's were Sefton's they were both Pickering's.

Again any advice most welcome on this one!  ???
