World War One / Re: Mysterious Hospital WW1
« on: Monday 24 June 13 22:35 BST (UK)  »
Hi Midase,
I am not sure this is going to be helpful, The building does not look like a Hospital but maybe a school comandered for a recuperation/ convalecent centre. I state this as over the door on the left it says GIRL which in normal times would be the girls entrance as mixed schools were not the norm except in country areas and there would be a separate boys entrance.
The inmates are certainly from different regiments and countries as I believe you can tell from the headgear being worn. The suits look to be the walking out wear of recuperating soldiers[in WWII this was a bright blue suite , white shirt ,and red tie ,but I don't remember the light coloured lapels] It is also noticeable that no bandages , or indeed patients in hospital beds which often the norm in hospital photographs are on display.
The nurses appear to be Queen Alexandria's Royal Army Nursing Corps by the look of the officers uniforms with shoulder capes. If you wish to know more you could try QARANC website asking anyone can identify the photo for you.
     Best Wishes , Good Hunting

World War Two / Re: would like to know where she was and when - Vera Ethel Warren

Hi Kiwicatz,
As no one has replied to your request ,and I have only just found you ,I am hoping what I am about to give you is of use?
Have you tried the QARANC Association web site ?If you go to this site and trawl down the left hand column you will come to a list of Military Hospitals from all over the world .Most of them are sadly no longer working hospitals ,however many have historical facts and stories from those that worked in them in years gone by including WWII.
Hope you can find something that helps put your Family History into context .

        Good Hunting and best wishes

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Re: Scholey name in Barnsley early 1780-1820

Hi Smol,
Thanks for your input, apart from the fact that the William Scholey lived in Old Town Barnsley where members of my family lived, I don't have any connections.
Dependant on how many Scholey's were in Barnsley ,and how long they had lived there ,George Scholey father of William would probably have been born in the 1820s the same era I am looking at. If I can find children specifically for the Richard in Victors post we might be onto something.

Dear Victor,
Thank you for that info ,it was something I did not have ,so every little helps.
The 1881 census for Ryhill states Harriet was born in Barnsley she did live in Old Town with first husband ,as there seems to be so little information on the Scholey's I wonder if they were Non-Conformists, the next generations were Primitive Methodists do you think I should take this as a clue ?

        Looking for help please
Harriet Scholey c1819 married George Sanderson St Marys Barnsley 26 march 1836
George died of Pneumonia 13 august 1845 ,Harriet then married Samuel Sanderson        Younger Brother of George 9 February 1852 .
Her father may have been Richard?
John Sanderson another brother of George and Samuel married Hannah Scholey in 1836

It is feasible that these Scholey girls were sisters ? but more family have been elusive to find ,so help needed on the Scholeys please

Me Again,
With Regard to Hannah Thomas[Malson],John her husband was buried 1836 aged 78 Abenhall,in 1841 she was living alone in Plump Hill aged 80[all her siblings became octoganarians ,lets hope it was passed down the genes?].
Some time ago i was in touch with a Sue Greene in New Zealand who's family she had traced back to Hannah through her son John 1797 .At the time i only had three legitimate children for Hannah and John Thomas 1763 ,but this Sue had another two Daughters Ann1801 and Susannah 1804 she was going to send me more info but never did .However she had some years previously been in touch with descendants who lived in Bristol and she had Johns children born in Bristol .
The point i am getting at as Hannah's death is not recorded in Abenhall and district maybe she spent her final years in Bristol and may be buried there ?

       Best Wishes Harvo

Hi Again,
All very plausible,i had also looked for a marriage /death for this Nancy but could not find either .
John Thomas who Hannah married in Newland 1791 must have been a very understanding man to bring up two base born children along with those of his own that followed ,don't you think.Or one wonders if she left these two with her parents ,we had this happen in a different branch of the family, not Malson, when the mother married, this was shown in a census return as he was living with his grandparents.
Oh for some sign between 1788 and 1821 when William was born and married.

Thank you so much for all your input ,David is watching this and sends his regards

          My Best Wishes Harvo

Me Again,
Thank you for your posts and input ,David did send me a copy of the parish record you found ,we were ready to accept the entry of William Jenkins Malson even though the "L" seems to have been added as an afterthought. As you say find another William bapt 1788,pity he did not stick with the Jenkins as this would have clinched it .
We became unsure of that entry after noticing 2 years earlier 1786 there had been a baptism entry for a "Nancy base child of Hannah Mason" [not altered to Malson],is this just coincidence or the same person ?
Sadly in this time scale there are no other means like the census which would clarify the issue and although i have known that Hannah Thomas was a witness at Williams Marriage ,she must surely have close connections ,there is sadly no other info available to prove that this is his Mother .

I am most grateful for your input and help ,and if you can think of anything else it would be most welcome

       My thanks Harvo
