Anna - Paul Gay was born around 1790 - 1
Moses was born around 1815 - 16

AVM - Thanks for info about Mary Gay being baptised in Priston - another village to check!

Jusnoneed - Yes, Moses married Caroline Garland, and could have died in 1853, as they had 3 children born 1843, 1848 & 1849.

David - many thanksfor the suggested sites, and advice about groups to join.  At least I now have other avenues to explore......

Any other ideas or suggestions gratefully received :)

Somerset / Paul GAY in Bath

I don't know if anyone can help, but I'm trying to find out more about one of my ancestors, Paul Gay.
I think I found him in the 1841 census, living in Bath with Elizabeth Gay (hopefully his wife).  He appears on his son's marriage certificate in 1842, profession 'Mason'.  And I found a marriage in 1813 on Family Search of a Paul Gay to Elizabeth Vagg in St. James, Bath.
Apart from these entries, I cannot find a trace of a birth registration, the birth registration of his son, Moses, or any other siblings.  I am traveling to Bath this summer to see what else I can find out, but in the meantime would like some more facts to work with.  Are there any lists of Masons working in the Bath area?  (When googling, all I get are Freemasons!)  Anyone have any ideas where I could look for birth registrations?

Thanks Nell, for the link and advice.  I had actually checked for mort-cloth rentals - but I think my lot were so poor they couldn't even afford that!
I guess I shall just have to take it that they were buried in the appropriate churchyards, sans stone or records.

According to Ancestry, someone by the name of Johnson has the same people in their family tree, and Henry's parents are Daniel Keeble and Eliza Hawes.

In the 1851 census there is a family at:
71, Stone Cottages, Flicks(?), Wickham Market, Suffolk
Daniel Keeble, Head, aged 51, widower, Ag Lab, born Charsfield, Suffolk
Henry, son, aged 21, Ag Lab, born Wickham Market
Alfred, son aged 17, Ag Lab,  born WM
George, son, aged 15, Ag lab, born WM
Sarah Ann, daugter, aged 7, born WM

Thanks all for the advice, but I looked through all the local records held in the Scotlands Records office in Edinburgh, and couldn't find entries for burials for any of them!  So even without stones, shouldn't there have been some sort of record?

I'm sure this topic has been covered before, if so, please point me in the right direction.
I have been tracing my husband's ancestors in rural Aberdeenshire, and have found all sorts of records of marriages and births, but very little in the way of deaths.  We actually made a trip to Scotland last summer, and I had a look around the graveyards in all the little villages that his ancestors lived in.  Nearly all the churches were originals - but no graves pertaining to our family! 
So my query - if they weren't buried in the local graveyards, where were they interred?  Back garden?  Fields?
Any help welcomed.

Thanks for your interest.
I have the family on the 1851 census (er.... not sure what you mean by ref. Jennifer). ???
Both James Snr & jnr are carpenters (journeymasters, I think) & Robert is a plasterer something (can't make out what the second word is). Robert is married to Caroline, and they have a little boy, also Robert, 1 month old.
There is also a grandson-in-law, Edward Cook, and another daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Brook, both 4 years old.  I'm not sure what relation these actually are to any of the others!

I have been trying to find an IVEY family in the 1841 census, and am nearly ready to admit defeat.  I am really hoping one of you more experienced folk will be able to spot them.

The details I have are as follows:

James IVEY Head born c1801 Middlesex
James IVEY son born c1826 Hammersmith or Tottenham, Middlesex
Robert IVEY son born c 1826 Holloway, Middlesex

I do hope someone can find them.
