Buckinghamshire / Cox family particularly, Jane Cox born 1843 Longwick, Bucks
« on: Tuesday 22 July 25 13:13 BST (UK)  »
Looking for a baptism, or any other information for Jane Cox born 1843 Longwick, Bucks.  There is a GRO entry for Wycombe 1843 which could be her and suggests she was illegitimate.  In 1851 she is 'visiting' William and Maria Cox in Monks Risborough and in 1861 she is some kind of relative of William and Jane Fuller in Woolwich, where she seems to remain

I think she then marries Thomas McCord in 1878 and then Harry Bell in 1899.  I think I have found her in 1881, 1891, 1901 and 1911; then in 1921 a son Frank Cox born 1867 appears.

The lady appears to have led an interesting life!

Would very much like to find out who her mother was and any help would be much appreciated.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: Is Ancestry rationing matches?
« on: Wednesday 09 July 25 09:21 BST (UK)  »
No new matches or Common Ancestors for some time.  I suspect Common Ancestors may have been replaced by Clusters, which since I don't have pro tools I don't get.

Actually I have a whole 2 new matches just arrived

Thanks

I wonder whether this explains why I have had no new shared Ancestors matches for months

I have the same burial, hadn't looked at that marriage.  Trouble is the Stevens family is a large one who liked certain names, story of my research!  :-)

Thanks for the added info.

I have Stevens from Bledlow as well.  I go back to John Stevens born 1714 Bledlow, married Hannah (Keene?)  I even have a DNA link, although how reliable that is is debateable!  :-)

Canada / Re: Thomas Holloway born 1876 London, England emigrated to Toronto

Right, now for the Holloways!

The marriage cert shows Benjamin batchelor of full age, a cabinet maker.  He is the son of John Holloway a foreman at the West India docks.

I haven't found Benjamin in the 1841 census but I think he the Benjamin shown in the London, England, Selected Poor Law Removal and Settlement Records, 1698-1922 in 1840 son of John Holloway a weaver married to Sarah Field age 40 wife of 20 years as at last 14 Aug, married Stepney, no cert.  Children Benjn age 19, John 17, George 15, Mary 13, Wm 9, Jeremiah 5, Edw 15 months.

The marriage record shows the marriage was by banns, witnesses Charles Ardonis and Mary Swan. Mary Holloway married Thomas Swan (widow) 17 Oct 1814 Christ Church, Spitalfields.  Witness Benjamin Holloway.

I think this is the family minus Benjamin in 1841

John Holloway Age   40 born   Middlesex, England silk weaver
Hunt Street, Mile End New Town   Stepney
Hundred   Ossulstone (Tower Division)Middlesex
Piece   711
Book   5
Folio   37
Page number   7
With
John Holloway   17
George Holloway   15
Mary Holloway   13
William Holloway   11
Jeremiah Holloway   8
Edward Holloway   2
Sarah Holloway   40
All born in county

I think this is them in 1851

5 Little George Street, Bethnal Green
John Holloway Age   52 dock labourer born  Bethnal Green, Middlesex, England
Spouse Sarah Holloway age 51 born   Bethnal Green
Children
Mary Holloway   22
William Holloway   19
Jeremiah Holloway   16
Edward Holloway   10
Charles Holloway   6
all born Bethnal Green

In 1861 John is once again shown as a silk weaver, but in both 1871 and 1881 he is shown as a dock labourer.

I believe that John Holloway was the son of Benjamin Holloway and Ann of New Inn Yard baptised 1 Jan 1800 at St Leonard's Shoreditch,  born 5 Nov 1799.

This is where it gets tricky because there are two Benjamin Holloways born about the same time in the same area.  One, a widower, married Ann Stevens on 28 Feb 1788 at St Dunstan and All Saints, witnesses James Brown and Samuel Mears?  I believe this is our man.  His first marriage was probably to Hannah Golding.

There are two possibilities for his parents John and Mildred Holloway who baptised a son Benjamin in 1757 or Jeremiah and Mary Holloway who also baptised a son Benjamin in 1757.

I am not sure who Sarah Field's parents are either.
