Heywood, thanks for the information. It would'nt take much to go from steward to cook over the years and the fathers name is correct. Still puzzled as to where this Spanish Nationality came from as one usually did not take your wife with you when you went to sea, especially a steward.

But this is very promising anyway. Many Thanks Again

H, sorry for not getting back sooner been away for couple of days. Some great leads to follow up on thanks. As to your last reply, it states Spanish on my grandfathers attestation papers for the nationality of his dad John edwards. This is what has caused so much confusion as the 1911 census has him born in liverpool, and as my grandfather and apparantly John Edwards where all dark skinned with black hair and brown eyes and the family always thought that someone along the line was from spain, not this may have been his John's mother but just so hard to pinpoint.

Trish, they married in Liverpool Parish Church according to the marriage certificate, they where living in and around the Everton district. I thought about maybe his father serving in the military and him being born abroad, but then why put Liverpool down in the Census return of 1911.

Can anyone help, I am trying to track down information on an ancestor that ran/owned a shop in Liverpool. The store I think was called Onions General Store and was probably located on Smithdown Road. I am not too sure of the time period but would think it was between 1920 and 1930's.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am hoping someone can help as I am stumped as to where to look next. My grandfathers parents are John Edwards b c 1878 and Elizabeth Alice Glossop b c 1876. On their marraige certificate it has John's father as a John Edwards Ships Cook. In the 1911 Census it has John Jnrs place of birth as Liverpool, yet on my Grandfathers attestation papers for the Kings Liverpool Regiment in April 1929 John's nationality is Spanish.

My Grandmother always said there was Spanish blood on my Grandfathers side as he was dark complexioned, black hair brown eyes and his father was also dark complexioned.

Can anyone give any advice on how to proceed with this?
