Nottinghamshire Lookup Requests / Re: Woman's Hospital Nottingham
« on: Friday 21 October 11 20:59 BST (UK)  »
Hi Wendy

I think I am coming to the conclusion that they must have been cremated and that the Hospital at the time held the records and as they are now closed, the records have been destroyed.
End of story so to speak. :'(
At least I think I have tried all avenues, with help along the way.

Thank you and everyone else who has looked for me  or made suggestions of where else to try.

Kindest regards

Linda :)

Hi Wendy

I am getting confused between who has what records, as Wilford seems to have records that the Archives has, and as you say, Archives hold records that would be of no use looking at as the years are wrong.

The only ones that may be of any use would be Woodborough, Newark or Hucknall but even then I have no idea where they are in relation to the Woman's hospital.

Ah well

Thanks
Linda

Hi Nottsgirl

The gentleman at the Wilford Hill Cemetery records office had a look and said there were no records for them at Bulwell Cemetery but he did say to try Archives for burials at St John's and St Mary's in Bulwell.

I think I will send off a form to Archives next.

Thanks
Linda

Hello all

Thanks for the input of ideas. Now come to think of it, it would make sense to have them cremated.

I did send an email on the 4/9/11 to National Archives and I did get a reply suggesting the General and Church cemeteries.

At the time I did not know the actual hospital, so I will flick them off another email. Failing that I will try the Evening Post.

On the cremation front, would they not have had to use a funeral director?

I had a reply from the University with no luck on the records front, but I had the funny feeling they may have had accounts, so I will go and check.

Thanks all for your replies. :)

Hi

Central Cemetery is also known as General and Canning Circus I believe. That being the case, they are not in that cemetery unfortunately.

I think I may have been born at the hospital too, but I don't have a full birth certificate to check.

Thanks
Linda

Hello

I am trying to find out what happened to my twin brothers who were born in the above hospital on the 7/8/1958 and died there the same day. Their names were Gary and Robert Davies.

I have had help from a kind man at the Wilford Hill Southern Cemetery & Crematorium and he has accertained that they are not on any of his records. I've also checked: Carlton, Gedling, Red Hill and Bulwell with no luck.

Mine and my sisters memories are, that my mother never got to hold or see the boys but my Dad
did and when asked if they wanted the hospital to organise the burial, they went with that.

I live in NZ so finding it hard with all the cemeteries in Nottingham and hospitals.

The Wilford Hill gentleman wondered if they may have been buried in the Hospital grounds but so far it looks like they didn't have a graveyard? Or that they may have been buried in a local Churchyard which is what I am stuck on. The other option was that a local funeral director may have done the burial but I'm stuck there on who to ask as well.

Has anyone got any more ideas on where to look.

I have sent off an email to the Univesity as I understand they have patent records that can be looked at after 100 years or maybe less if you ask them, we will see if I get a reply.

Thanks

Linda

Hello Carol

I think we were living in Loughborough, Leister at the time, but my understanding is is that the Hospital dealt with the burial. So did they bury them, use them for science, dispose of them in their waste!!! Who knows.

The hospital system should keep records you would think, all 4 of us were born in the same Hospital as far as I understand and my brothers died because off the A- antibodies and my sister born after had to have a blood transfusion for the same reason. Must be records somewhere but where?

Any ideas of which direction to try next?

Thanks

Linda
