« on: Friday 04 December 20 13:28 GMT (UK)  »
I have a photo of someone i'm told is my great uncle, his cap badge is that of the Machine Gun Corp, but the ,military records i have found for him show that he was in the Kings Royal Rifles.

records show he was a Lewis gunner  ( he was captured at St Quentin on 21/3)

was the MGC ever part of KRR in WW1  ?

I noted the 1861 cencus record of midshipman early on in my research, and although i never ruled it out it struck me as being a bit grand for what i was expecting to find. I wouldnt have thought he would have been staying in a hotel whose guests included a baronet, chaplain and Court commissioner.

He is also very young to be staying (and able to afford to stay) in a hotel on his own... I wonder if he is there with other residents, perhaps the Fane's who are listed above him.... is it possible they took him in ?  how do we ever find out ?

thanks Roger, the maiden name of Lee is certainly a possibility, i've looked back at the census records and some of the details tally, but some dates and occupations do not.... that doesnt of course mean this is the wrong family.

I have added the data to my family tree in the hope it prompts some hints.... at the moment I dont know how I can verify any of the info though..

thanks very much for responding

My great-grandfather was Charles Palmer (possibly Charles Henry Lee Palmer, as was his son) born between 1845-1849, i believe in the Stepney/Poplar area of London, His marriage certifcate (to Emma Philpot in 1881) shows his father as also being Charles.... at certain points in their both lives their occupation is recorded as mariner.

4 of Charles 6 children also have a middle name Lee, one of which was my grandmother Harriet Lee Palmer

believe my ggrandfather Charles (Henry Lee ?) died in 1906

does anyone know anything about this family ??

I have hit a brick wall trying to confirm the birth of my great-grandfather (1845-1849) and don't even know where to look to find his parents, Charles & ?

he later worked as a crane driver in the docks, but I dont know how soon afetr 1921 that was.

I have a watch chain presented to my grandad in 1926 for services rendered as president of NSWH Jolly Ramblers

does anyone know what this organisation was ?

it refers to him as "Bro. A G Adams)
from the "Bro Ramblers"
