Gloucestershire / Re: Illegitimacy in Shipton Sollars/Olliffe 1797

Many thanks Victor, for your reply.
I have done a dna test since posting this message and my halls seem to be scotch/irish so looks like gloucestershire searching is over. Although i would appreciate your views on the illegitimacy situation in my family, i know it was common back then but in my family's case it seemed a little too strange.

Gloucestershire / Re-Registered Death
« on: Thursday 08 July 10 13:10 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I have just recieved a death certificate for my grtx3 grandfather, Thomas Yeates/Yates and with it a letter from GRO stating that there is a re-registered copy available if I know the details.
I cannot find details of another later copy, but just wondered what reasons could there be why the death should be re-registered?
He lived in the Guitings and died in the Cottage Hospital Winchcomb in 1894, he died of exhaustion after an operation of a strangulated hernia.
Many Thanks.

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Death/Burial Look Up Please
« on: Thursday 27 May 10 09:14 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I am desperate to find out if there was anyone with the surname HALL who was registered for burial in Shipton Sollars/Olliffe from 1796 to around 1801.
I have NBI second edition but these years are not included for Shipton.

Many Thanks,
Rainmaker.

Gloucestershire / Illegitimacy in Shipton Sollars/Olliffe 1797
« on: Wednesday 26 May 10 19:21 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,
My grt grt grt grt grt Grandmother Eliz Yeates/Yates had two illegitimate children one of them being my grtx4 Grandfather. I have been trying to track down the father of my grt x4 grandfather for the last five years with no luck (before you ask have checked all bastardy bonds etc without any luck).
My Grt x4 Grandfather Richard Yeates was baptised in Shipton Sollars and all I know is that the Fathers surname was HALL as he was baptised Richard Hall Yeates.
I just wondered if there were any local historians out there that could give me a clue as what could have happened to the Father like for example,
If a father is not in the bastardy bond records then does this mean he had died?
How come my Grtx6 grand mother had two illegitmate children? Was this normal for the late 1700's?
Does this give a clue to my grtx6 grandmothers' profession?
Also does anyone know if I can obtain a list of former servants and maids from manor houses like Shipton Sollars and Olliffe from the late 1700's?
I know I am asking a lot but here goes anyway.
Many Thanks,Rainmaker

Gloucestershire / Re: The Woodhouse, Temple Guiting?
« on: Wednesday 26 May 10 19:01 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,
In response to maggiefishblue's postings, I would like to say that I am a decendant of the 'Staites' of Guiting Power. My Grt Grt Grt Grandfather Thomas Yeates married Sarah Staite in the 1850's and Richard Staite was Sarah's Father. I just wondered if my Richard was any link to yours.

Many Thanks,
Rainmaker
