London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / St Bride's church London - look up request
« on: Wednesday 26 December 12 11:39 GMT (UK)  »
Hi - I don't know if anyone can look up the marriage licence for John Peter Brandstrom and Margaret Tennyson Williams who left their homes in Hull/Grimsby and married in St Brides church - London on 25/9/1833. Alternatively does anyone know where I can access this record? She was only 20, whilst he was possibly 39, and whilst the marriage record is on Ancestry it says the marriage was by licence. Within a couple of years both had married others which adds to the mystery - regards Hardiman-Burton

Gloucestershire / Re: Lower Slaughter - Mosson and Dowler family
« on: Sunday 29 July 12 10:07 BST (UK)  »
Hi Dawn - I have looked at my tree - my great aunt Lydia B Day married Cecil George Mosson and moved to LS in 1912 - His parents were Alfred Charles Mosson and Georgina Watson and the generation before John Mosson and Sarah Ann Heath. As I previously said I visited St Marys church LS last year and there are all the graves for the children of Lydia and Cecil and Lydia and Cecil grave but these all date from the 20th century - I was unable to find my grandfathers grave and he died in the 1950's - I left a request and the church warden contacted me, unfortunately the records for the graves have gone to the Glostershire archives but she advised there isn't a complete record of the graveyard - looking back through your posts I see you have a Mosson/Clifford marriage and I have been in touch by letter to a 2nd cousin who was a Mosson and is now a Clifford and she has told me of a long history between these 2 families. The Mosson family have had a long history in Lower Slaughter which is a beautiful old world English village and from my mum who was their cousin I know there is only one member of this family left in the village and he is quite old. I have tried to attach a photo of the church to this post which hopefully you can open Jane

Norfolk / Flowerday/Shepherd/Neve - norfolk
« on: Tuesday 10 July 12 22:02 BST (UK)  »
looking for information mainly about William Flowerday born 1802 possibly Ludham - died 1858 Hull married Sarah Elizabeth Shepherd in Lakenham in 1831 - I have no information before this date but in the 1871 census his widow has a Richard Flowerday born 1811 Yarmouth living with her and he is described as her brother in law. Other names in this tree include Harriet Shepherd (sister) who married Edward Neve from Catfield and one of their children Sarah Jane Neve married her first cousin Frederick John Flowerday son of William in Hull - the only record I can find of Richard Flowerday is the 1871 census so I can't work back from this point - Any help about these families who started off in Norfolk and ended up in Hull greatfully received - JC

Hi Barbara - thanks for your help - when I got your reply I wasn't sure there was a connection, but I have spoken to my mother and she says her father was called Dick by some people although he was usually called Herb.  He was married to my grandmother Eleanor Kate Day who was called Nell/Nellie - I don't know of any Rose's in the family but my grand dad did have several sisters. I would like to make contact and if possible write to John and Ann Hatwell and see what they can tell me

Hi Barbara

my mother was born and brought up in moreton in marsh until she married my father who was in the RAF - incidentially I lived at RAF Brize Norton in the 1970,s. My mother was Ethel Hardiman, older sister Audrey and younger brother Roy. They remember the fair coming to moreton in 1930/40's and were given free rides as they were told it was their uncle - they think ? Atwell had married one of their father's sisters - their father was Herbert Victor Hardiman (who was a jack of all trades, small holder one time fire fighter etc) born 1904 - 1975. Herbert had siblings Ernest John, Alice, Minnie,Ethel, Edith and possibly Mabel - his parents were Richard Hardiman (1858 - 1928) and Emma Gardiner. I have managed to find interesting facts about the family before Richard and would be happy to share what I know and maybe if the Attwells are relatives they may know family history which they can share.
