Just found this site thanks to swo man migy! hi Frank ;>) <grin>
I was one of those telephonists at North West Central who, more often than I liked, heard the footsteps and saw the shadows in that long corridor on night shift, don't remember being aided by the radio op's though! ;>)
I was stationed there end of 1958 until I left on Marriage March 1960
I have tried for years to contact my 2 bridesmaids Joyce Unsworth and Patricia Cross nee Dickinson.
Joyce came from Wigan and Pat Gt Yarmouth, anyone remember them please?
Others were Eileen McLaughlin, Cpl Peter Devlin he built a car from a kit between raf & wraf blocks
I also remember the Raf block getting struck by lightning, one of the lads had a radio on windowsil and it got hit in a storm.
Some of the chaps formed a skiffle group, and played quite a good Lonnie Donegan with a tea chest for a double bass - my favourite on NAFFI Juke Box was Russ Conway!
