There is a Facebook group called Wonders of Waterlows. https://www.facebook.com/groups/164442136968190/
There are lots of interesting photos!

I found this picture on it of the Waterlow shooting club 1936/37 season.
The caption reads:
Back row...
H. Braurigam, jnr...R. Thomson...A. Baker....N. Linford...R. Willey....J. Dickinson....J. Thompson
Front row...
W. Hoare....S. Wilkins.....G. Lonely....WG Thompson...H. Brautigam,snr...C. King

My father is the one on the left, front row.

Hi Alan,

I had forgotten I'd posted on here. I would be interested in any information you have on the Stuart family. My mother told me that the Stuart's were originally from the Isle of Bute. Do you have any info that connects the family to Bute?

Regards
Dave

Hi viach65

It's possible that my father, my grandfather and my grand uncle all worked with your father.
My father was a monotype operator and my grandfather and grand uncle were a packer and a warehouseman respectively.
My father did move to the Dunstable factory, sometime before the start of WW2 as he was an ARP warden with the Bedfordshire Civil Defence.

Dave

Hi Steve

My father (William S Hoare) was a member of the Waterlows (Dunstable) Rifle Club and I have 2 certificates confirming that he won competitions in September 1941 and February 1945. I would think that this would have been mentioned in WandS. If you find anything I'd love to see a scan, especially if there is a photo of him.

I have attached a scan of one of the certificates which may have possibly been printed at Waterlows

Dave

My grandfather worked for Waterlow and Sons after the war for a considerable time. I'm just moving house and have found all his old 'wandS' in house magazines - well there more like books really - from 1946 - 1961. I have what appears to be the first copy which has no title as it had only just been started. Mr. Philip Waterlow invites people to write in with a suitable title with the winner receiving 2 guineas! Absolutely fascinating and I dare say some of you guys on here will have photos of relatives in them. I will get around to having a good look through them all at some point so if you have any names you'd like me to keep a look out for, let me know.
Cheers,
Steve

Don

Check your inbox I have sent you a PM with my email address.

I would like to see copies of those letters if you have scans of them.

Dave

Dave,
Yes we are in St. Louis - Oliver and Ellen moved here from the UK, and my grandpa was born here.   When we were young my grandpa told us that the Hoare family had royal bloodlines and that once Ellen married Oliver Padfield - that she was kicked out of the royal family.  We always thought that it was just a story, but now we may be able to find out if there is any truth to it.

Also wanted to tell you that I just found out that my older brother has letters written between Ellen and her mother.  He is sending copies of them to me.  Once I get them, I will let you know if there is any info. that may be useful to you.

Thanks
Don

Hi Don

According to Ancestry's relationship calculator you are my 2nd cousin 1x removed.

I guess, from what I have seen on Ancestry, that you live in St Louis.

My mother's maiden name was Rose Cook and she told me some years ago that some relation of hers was living in Buffalo. As yet I have had no luck tacking them down.

Please keep in touch.

Dave

Hi China

Thanks for your reply.

I had found that listing in the online phone book. Unfortunately it is not my cousin.

Canada / Trying to trace my cousin R Hoare
« on: Sunday 30 January 11 17:27 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to track down my cousin and his wife and/or their descendants.
R is the son of Albert Amos Hoare & Lou Ellen Scott. He married (*) in 1965. They emigrated to Canada in the late '60's or early '70's.
Any help or information would be most welcome.

Dave,
I'm sorry I don't have any info. on your grandfather, but I believe his sister Ellen was my great-grandmother.  She married Oliver Padfield.  I'm just starting my search and was wondering if you have any information on her.

Thank you
Don Padfield

Hi Don

I have found your tree on Ancestry and have connected to you.

I'm afraid I have no further information about Ellen, other than that she was my Grand Aunt.

If fact you had more info than I did, as I only had her birth, but I see we have a difference as to where she was born. You have Brixton and I have Clapham.

The 1871 & 1881 census's both give Clapham as the place of birth, though the 1891 shows it as Brixton.
