I have 5  2nd cousins suggested by Ancestry, but only one was known to me.

Two are connected to a cousin of my father who was adopted shortly after birth. (260 over 12 & 239 over 15) Surprise no.1

One is adopted and conected to my mothers paternal side. She had her DNA to find her father. She was successful and as her father is not in my matches then I must be connected to her mother. She wishes to remain her mothers little secret (354 over 20) . I have my ideas as to who it may be, but!

One has no tree and has not replied, but she is again on my mothers paternal side (222 over 17). I have a comprehensive tree and I cannot find her.

The fifth is also on my mothers paternal side and is known to me(2C and 7C, 245 over 17). She shares matches with my two unknowns

When my results came through 15 months ago, it was a surprise and a challenge which I am enjoying.

I have uploaded to MyHeritage. I have 2 unknowns out of my top 8. I an adopted (92 over 6) and one no reply (94 over 5). Only one of my grandparent lines has not produced a surprise.

Thank you Margaret

You have answered my question

My problem is the opposite.

I have about two thirds of both your matches and close matches.

Probably the same number of cousins but shared with fewer people :)

I have one double 6G Grandfather so the upward collapse is minimal, but i several families where siblings married siblings of their spouse including my maternal grandparents who were 5th cousins as were the siblings who married.

As a result I have a cousin who is twice a second cousin, twice a seventh cousin from my maternal side and a tenth cousin from my paternal side. And  he does not look like me!

I have dna match through my 9GG (m 1632) of 1 segment of 8cMs, and most of the paper trail was there before the match.

My maternal grandparents are 5th cousins and their known ancestors  are all from Lincolnshire.

My paternal grandmother's known ancestors are all from Lincolnshire except for two of my 3rd Great grandfathers from Norfolk and Suffolk.

Thankfully my paternal grandfather was not of Lincolnshire.

I have many double cousins and some triple cousins with whom I have a DNA match. I have sextuple cousins who I presume have not tested their DNA.

I have read a little on endogamy and remain bemused.

I presume it applies to me but I am not sure how.

Does anyone know of a simple explanation please ?

Thank you
David

Ps
I have 23,501 matches on Ancestry (165 close matches)
and I have confirmed 123 (41 close matches)

As both of us were on FT_DNA it was correct. The information given is minimal ie. .21% but future matches may be more signifiant. It is better than Living_DNA where I am still waiting for a match.

In time I hope the information may be better.

I have no regrets

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Geneanet DNA

I have had my tree on Geneanet for many years, and it has brought me a lot of contacts.

Last night I had an email announcing their DNA venture.

This morning I uploaded my ancestry DNA test, and 2 hours later I got my first match.

I was astonished

My Largest unknown person is a 354 cMs across 20 segments.
She replied to me saying that she was adopted and through her DNA had made contact with her delighted father.
However she wished to remain her mother's little secret. I know which grand parent branch she belongs to, but no more.
