Hello MStock-

My Stock line is also from Shipham. I'd be interested to see your tree, and would reciprocate. I also have Ancestry.com DNA testing available to share. I think that Ann Stock who married Frederick Day is in my line - my ggg-gf's sister. Here is the will of her father:

This will was on record in Bristol, England. It escaped
the destruction caused by the German bombing of Bristol duringWorld War II because it had been transferred to the Somersetshire county seat of Taunton. Historians had requested its transfer to
faunton because it was considered an excellent example of a small
landowner's (yeoman's) will.

WILL OF SILVANUS STOCK 27TH OCTOBER 1835

Revisiting this....Some of these Stocks made their way to Onandoga County, New York and then a few more to Michigan. They seemed to have had cousins in Shipham and many of both groups emigrated between 1850 and 1890, settling together in NY.

I am seeking direct male descendants of this Westbury group for DNA comparison. I am a direct descendant of the Shipham group and have a 46 marker yDNA test on Ancestry.

I have a feeling the Stocks of Shipham ultimately come down to a few siblings. Until someone transcribes the early parish records we will never know.

Re: Farmer, I've seen Farmer Wookey and probably one or two others with that name. I wish more had unique names. Too many of them were named Joseph, John, Sarah and Elizabeth.

Thanks. I have Elizabeth and her family from the 1841 census until her death in 1865. She lives with one of the daughters at each census. Can you provide more info about Farmer's descendants? I think with the state of the parish registers, the only way I will find a link is through DNA testing.

That is an amazing bit of info. Thanks!

Part of my theory on Silvanus being the eldest child of Joseph and Sarah is that the rest of the kids were baptised at Shipham en masse later on, and Silvanus may have been off mining elsewhere by then.

I'd like to revisit this old thread, ask for some help, and possibly help clear up some mysteries. Here goes:

My direct ancestor from Shipham was Silvanus Stock, born abt 1770. Not much is known about him as the Shipham parish records from around the time of his birth and his marriage were were damaged. He died in 1835, leaving a Will.

Silvanus and his wife, Elizabeth, are the mysteries. I have theorized, based upon naming convention and active breeding couples in Shipham/Rowberrow, that Silvanus was the child of Joseph Stock and Sarah Athay, who also happened to be Farmer Stock's parents. I also theorized that Elizabeth was a member of the Dean family, from Winscombe. Another researcher I know feels that Silvanus' parents were Samuel Stock and Sexa Stevens.

Knowing that Farmer was married in Bedminster, could someone with access to those records have a look for Silvanus? He would have been born about 1770 and married between 1796-1806. Their first child, Joseph, was born in either 1806 (gravestone) or 1810 (baptism).

I'd like to identify some descendants of Farmer, as I am a direct descendant of Silvanus and have an Ancestry.com DNA test to compare.
