Hello there. Not sure if you saw my posting, but my connection is that my 3 x great aunt, Rosamond, was William Greaves Snr's second wife. She was considerably younger, so I'd imagine this caused some consternation in the family! They had two children but one died infancy. I'd welcome any anecdotes or info you may have.

Kind regards
Tina

Kent Completed Lookup Requests / Re: 1861/1871 census lookup please? - YOUNG, Brenchley

There is a place called Red Herring City in Brenchley - one of my relatives mentioned it when I was there last week. I am trying to find out where Mitchells City was - any ideas?

Best wishes

I have a George Jubb, born around 1838, who married Jane Steel. They were in the Attercliffe area of Sheffield. I believe George's father was also a  George.

One thing, just briefly; I believe one Greaves descendant in Australia has a copy of a letter written by Eleanor Greaves, sister of Valentine, to one of her brothers. She seems to have been estranged from the family at the time, and living in Manchester. Have you come across it at all?

I've visited The Hermitage in Mayfield and the current owners kindly showed me round. They mentioned that one or two of William Senior's descendants in Australia had been in touch, and that there were a few stories/anecdotes.

Bye for now
Tina

Hello there

I am related to Rosamond Greaves (nee Moreton) who married William Greaves of The Hermitage, Mayfield, in 1870. Do you know anything about the circumstances of their marriage?

There was a 50-year age difference and I think she may have been a servant to the family; I wonder if there are any anecdotes or photographs surviving?

They had two sons, one of whom died of hydrocephalus in infancy. Rosamond (Rose) returned to her home village of Duffield, Derbyshire after William's death in 1873, and eventually married a Benjamin Moseley.

I have a copy the Letters of Administration as William apparently died intestate; also of their marriage certificate.

Thank you

Hi there. I am related to Rosamond Moreton, who married William Greaves of The Hermitage, Mayfield, Staffordshire, in 1870. She was his second wife. I understand that several of William's children from his first marriage (to Barbara Turner) went to live in Australia.

There's a string of postings on the site but it is locked; I'm a newcomer to this site so I don't know how to email the senders! They do seem to be the same family, though, so I'd love to get in touch.

If anyone could help me to get in touch, I'd be very grateful.
