Family History Beginners Board / Re: finding poor grave location
« on: Friday 09 January 26 17:27 GMT (UK)  »
happy new year one and all,
I have been looking without luck  for the grave site for my grandfather John Foreman born1896/7 in St Pancras London, died 1929,in the TB hospital hendon age 32.
His father was Henry Foreman, and his mothers maiden name was Margaret Mary Egan.
Thanks in advance for any help,Roy

Have you ruled out the possibility that he my have been buried with a family member?  if his parents were alive when he died he may beburied with bis grand-parents?   Also where was your grandmother buried -  with him although if sh had remarried she may not have been buried with him.

I think it is far too interesting to be sidelined.  It might well encourage others to get a test, which would not happen if it didn't get a lot of viewings.  I'm really pleased for you Zetlander.  It's not a technical question.

Zaph

Zaph - thanks.

Had spent about 30 years searching for this 'missing' relative (as he wasn't married to g g grandmother very difficult to find.)  Interestingly his first name has been passed down through the generations.

I paid Ancestry £50 in November - list of relatives - close and distant - arrived recently.  I'm not sure whether or not I'll contact any of them (some I already know.)

Finding g g g'father was enough and I think it was £50 well spent.   My subscription runs out next month and I wont be renewing.

(Of course had the other descendants of the missing guy not joined Ancestry I wouldn't have been lucky.)

Got resuts back recently and a list of relevant matches.
Found my long lost g g grandfather who was proving very elusive as he wasn't married to g g grandmother when their son my g grandfather was born.

Just had DNA result from Ancestry and in the list of relatives is my 2 X g-grandfather.  Been searching for his details for years - had his name but he wasn't married to my 2 X  g-grandmother which made finding him almost impossible.
Well done Ancestry!

o/t If the Police have the DNA from a crime scene can they access the Ancestry in search for a match - (asking for a friend!)

Family History Beginners Board / Tragic families.

The topic 'Police Records' by Siely outlines the many tragedies experienced by one family.

Girl in Primary School with me lost her mother when she was ten, her brother drowned, her sister killed when a wheel came off a speeding car and ran into her, her niece killed in an aircraft fire.

Do some families have an awful lot of tragedies compared with other families who have none?

Zet ,  there are many really helpful films on YouTube that will answer the whole story. The Ancestry and My heritage websites will also answer your basic questions.

Zaph

Thanks Zaph - didn't think of You Tube - will certainly try You Tube.  Thanks.

How does the system work - If I send for the kit and then return it with the sample - how does it get on to the data bank ?
If a match is found how are we put in touch with each other?
is there an on-going charge to keep my details on the data base?
Thanks.

The Lighter Side / Re: Coincidence or what!
« on: Wednesday 05 November 25 10:06 GMT (UK)  »
(nothing to do with family history)

My brother driving (speeding) from Wick to Inverness stopped by the police.
Like myself he is a fluent Welsh speaker -
spoke to the P C  in Welsh telling him he couldn't speak English - P.C. smiled and said - 'dim problem - mi ges i fy magu yn Caernarfon'  - 'no problem I was raised in Caernarfon'

does this count as a coincidence ?
