Census and Resource Discussion / Cancelling Ancestry
« on: Wednesday 03 August 11 19:09 BST (UK)  »
Hi, can anyone tell me if I retain all my research on ancestry and can still log in if I cancel my ancestry subscription?

Obviously I won't have access to their records, but will I still have all the other information I've acquired?

The Common Room / Lease on a property

If someone held the lease to a property in the mid 1500s,  did that mean they owned it/lived there?

Oh right. Well that was just an example as the name was the same as the Lake one I was interested in.  :)

Closer look makes the first letter look more like an F or an S.

Having a little more time to look at it, I agree with Redroger and vv. Too many vertical lines in this example. The random dots on the page don't help either, so there may be a letter i in there, but not necessarily. After the surname, does it say 'Norton was '? If so then there could even be a w in the forename.

Nothing springs to mind but the nearest long shot is Annie....

I've just had a bolt from the blue, I was wondering what that first letter could be if it wasn't an A. It could be a C but..... how about a G followed by wm for Latinised William.

I'll now go back and check the first example.

Colin

Hi Colin, it says "was buried" afterwards. It has to be a female name though because it is followed by "daughter of Thomas".

Hi Sandymc, they lived in Essex. Having looked at a similar letter in the name Powell, I think the first letter is P and probably Pery. Still open to debate though  :)

Essex / Finding that Will
« on: Monday 11 July 11 14:10 BST (UK)  »
Hi,  I am searching for a will that I know existed at one point, however, I should say that the likelihood of it having survived is probably slim. I have the will of his wife from 1555 and in hers she is a widow and mentions that her husband's will should be fulfilled in all points and meaning. So, does anyone have any experience in searching for, and finding, elusive wills?

Thanks  :)

Ryan
