Hi. I know you placed your post a long time ago but my Grandfather married ELLEN MEECHAN in 1948 and her parents were married in St Francis R.C. Church in the Gorbals, Glasgow on 8th April 1895 (Charles Meechen and Agnes Moore).
Agnes Moore's parents hailed from Enniskillen and were married there in 1854.
Let me know if I am on the right track and I will get some birth certs etc to you.
Best Wishes, Gerry in Glasgow.

Hi. Do you have the names of the people you are looking for and an approximate date of burial?

Hi Gillian, thanks for replying, my GG Grandmother was 81 when she died and her death was registered by her son E Wilson whose full name was Ezekiel Wilson. I wasn't aware of the fact that there is a property called Parkview.

Thanks again, Gerry.

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me. My Great Great Grandmother died in April 1941 and her death occurred in Parkview, Binniehill Road in the district of Slamannan. Does anyone know of a Parkview - was it a home for the elderly or a private residence?
She lived in Glasgow most of her life and it seems odd that she ended up so far from her roots.
Her name was MARY ANN WILSON (NEE MCGUCKIAN).

Any help would be very gratefully received.

Thanks, Gerry.

Monaghan / Re: McAree family from Monaghan

Hi, I was very interested in your post as you have inadvertently solved a mystery I could not figure out for years! My Mother's maiden name was MALARKEY and my ancestors moved to Glasgow 1847 or 1848.

Complicated to put in to words but there was a FANNY MCAREE who died in Barnhill Poorhouse in Glasgow in 1898 and on her death certificate her parents are down as HUGH MCAREE and BRIDGET MCAREE (nee QUIGLEY). She was married to PETER MALARKEY and on the 1861 census in Glasgow they resided at 73 Kirk Street.
Now, Peter died in 1889 and his wife is down as FANNY KING on the death certificate (which put me off my tracks because I knew the Peter I was interested in had married a MCAREE).

When they married in 1859 she is on the marriage cert as FRANCES KING.

On the 1861 census they had two lodgers living with them PATT and JAMES MCAREE who look like to have been Fanny's younger brothers. They are down as having been born in Co Fermanagh.

If you want any of the certificates I have for the McAree's just let me know.  One of Fanny's brothers married young when living in Garngadhill in Glasgow and had a child who died very young.

How did you come to find out that MCAREE was anglicized into KING - that's an amazing find for me...

Best wishes, Gerry Mellon.

Monaghan / Malarkey name in Co Monaghan
« on: Monday 19 March 12 15:50 GMT (UK)  »

Hi, I have already posted on the Fermanagh page with this enquiry but think I may have a connection in Co Monaghan.
My Mother's maiden name was MALARKEY and the family moved to Glasgow 1847/1848 and on the 1861 census they are down as having originated from Fermanagh but I have noticed that on many of the later 1901 census returns for the Malarkey name and it's variants that they were prevalent in County Monaghan but with their birthplace in Fermanagh.
Does anyone know if the Malarkey name was commonplace in County Monaghan and is it still?

Many thanks, Gerry.

Fermanagh / Malarkey name in Fermanagh?
« on: Wednesday 14 March 12 16:09 GMT (UK)  »

Hi - I wonder if anyone can help me. My Mother's maiden name was MALARKEY and on my great great great grandfather's 1851 census return in Glasgow, his birthplace is given as Co. Fermanagh. It looks as though the Malarkey's I am interested in moved to Glasgow between 1847 and 1848.
Can anyone tell me if this is a common surname in Fermanagh?

Many thanks, Gerry.

No, I don't have any census returns for the Mochan's but I have some marriage certificates for PETER MOCHAN and JESSIE MALARkEY from 1925 and various others going back from there. I am happy to research forward or backwards...!
