Hi Ruby

Nice to hear from you. I believe your husband is the cousin of my father-in-law William Clemmy, who lived in Bulmer Street as well.

So sorry to bother you again, but the images on Ancestry are against me at the moment.

This 1861 image:

RG 9/ 2540/88 Page:  50

looks like it could be the Thomas Bateman that I am looking for, who is the son of Thomas Bateman the antiquarian, but again i'm struggling to read the place of birth, it is Derby ..........

quite exciting this as the marriage certificate of my friend gt Grandmother (Sarah Bateman) has Thomas (deceased) as her father and his occupation as Gentleman.

As mentioned above he is mentioned in census as living  on his own means and one census has his birth place as Youlgreave in Derbyshire.  This links to the 1961 census above which has his father Thomas and mother Sarah living in Lomberdale House (the musem of Thomas Bateman).

Just a bit of background, and hope someone can help.

Thanks Keyboard and Radcliff.

Very interesting the link to youlgreave.  Seems to be a large influential family from there and Thomas being a Gentleman makes you wonder.

Your right on with the Paignton and the second marriage information.

Now to see if I can find Thomas's Birth in Derbyshire.

Many thanks

Hi All

I wonder if somone can help.

On ancestry I am having difficulty reading the following page in the 1891 census, it is relating to the bateman family (Thomas being the head).

I wonder if someone could take a look on whatever sources they have and let me know what it says.

I think it is Derbyshire as the County for Thomas's birth and I'm unsure of his wifes name (could be Sara).

Any help would be appreciated.

Hope this is the info you need.

Many thanks

Thanks JenB

That was just the ticket  :), checked the whittonstall register in City library today which gave a little more information about him being native of Salmonfield.  This I was then able to link with Thomas Bulman (6/7/1788) baptized in Whitley near hexham s.o. Thomas native of Salmonfield.

There is a marriage between Thomas Bulman and Sarah Brown in 1781 in whitley chapel, but how to see if this is the same Thomas?

Again thanks for the help.

wow.... :o

Loads of info here to digest.  Judging by Alans hard work I was on my way up the wrong path with the Thomas's in Bamburgh, looks like he could actually be called james.

I will have to try and find out the cert I need to purchase, either wedding or birth and take it from there.

Thanks again for the help everyone, it is much appreciated.
