Thank you again, a bit of a mystery this. He is supposed to have got a girl pregnant, went to South Africa looking for his Father, who after having 8 children decided he had had enough of married life. Father came back for a few visits but died in S. Africa in 1946.
Family History gave one child name of Florence which fits. Surprised to find that the children's names are Corcoran as that is the maiden name of his wife Mary Jane. Florence & Lilly were brought up by her parents. Lilly could not be Mary Jane's child but Florence could. They married in 1898 in Chorlton. Another surprise is that I think they had a child Mary born 1900, who was not mentioned at Probate. Will see if I can apply on line for the document. Might reveal something else !!!

 Best wishes, Elaine

18th June 2010 ???

All my relatives are British but have a few who ventured abroad. Re; French interest. My Great Aunt,

Mary Jane Nangle married a Gustave Emile McBride in Manchester, England in 1903  . Gustave was born

in Charleville Alsace in 1884 & died in Barnsley, Yorkshire 1947. His Father's name was James.

Applied to the Mayor of Charleville for Birth Certificate ( Archives ) with all relevant info; but 6 weeks

later have heard nothing.

My Maternal Great Grand- Father, Thomas Joseph Nangle, Father of Mary Jane, had 6 children but

decided he had had enough of married life so took himself off to Australia, this is only family gossip,

but he returned home only to depart for South Africa where he died in Cape Town in 1946.

Can anybody help in obtaining a birth certificate/marriage for a Gustave Emile McBride born Charleville,Alsace 1884. Hitting a brick wall. Assuming a Scot? married a French lady, but what was his Father doing in France in 1884.
